If it is a 4 cyl they are known for the flex pipe breaking the only fix is unfortunely replacment as far as the smoking sounds like you have a leak onto the exhaust have the oilpan and rear main checked

Hole in the exhaust? you can check this by getting an assistant to hold a rag over the tailpipe while you look for where the smoke is coming out on the pipe.

Running rough and white thick smoke from exhaust

sounds like you are burning coolant. sounds like you have a headgasket issue or cracked block. is your coolant level low?? in the overflow bottle and in the raadiator? something tells me that you will find that coolant is low. you are pulling coolant into the engine and it goes into the cylinder and pass the exhaust to the back of the car. the white smoke is the coolant burning off and thats why the car runs rough, because coolant is not flamable so it doesnt burn. this results in the spark plug not firing right and having rough running condition.

When I start the car especially after sitting for 2+ hrs I get a very shaky rough start and white smoke. I does however start on first turn so far.

ther may be a problem with the valve guide seals, allowing oil to drain into the motor as it sits, when you start is it runs rough until the oil is burnt (the white smoke)

Starts and then dies and then won't start acts

Sounds like you have carbon buildup in the exhaust system. Check your vacuum pressure. High pressure reading means exhaust problem.

You need to have your exhaust system checked. Backpressure can cause serious engine damage if not corrected in time.

White smoke from exhaust

Good check you have done.
Good for you head gasket is still good.
Bad stem valves can let the oil leak in to the combustion chambers causing smokes. Since the engine is Shaky on acceleeration, you need to check the compression presure to see if valves not seating properly ( poor compression ) besides the stem valves. Good luck.

it seems that the engine blew. the rings, rod bearings, main bearing etc. Sorry but it sounds like that. Especially the smoking at the exhaust. take it back to the one who sold it to you.If possible.

sounds like you left something out. check to see if you plugged in all the sensors and plugs, then check for any vacuum lines that were not replaced or may have been broken
