I have a 2002 Model Range Rover Deisel and it has now let me done 3 times for the past 6 months. It starts in the morning with out a problem. Suddenly once you run it for about 5 minutes then stop for another couple of minutes the engine turns over but it does not start. If you leave it for a about 20 minutes then it starts.

This is so intermitten that the dealer here cant seem to find the fault with out having the problem and also nothing getts recorded in the diagnostic unit. It behaves it self nearly always when we take it over to the dealer. We had a new battery put in last year too.
Thanks for your help.

1997 land rover discovery only starts sometimes or with a jump

If the battery is OK - see below - the give the starter solenoid (the small cylinder fixed to the starter) a few thumps with a hammer because they frequently get corroded inside. My bet is this is the cause of your problem. If that make no difference, check the battery voltage - it should be around 12.5 or a bit higher. If the voltage is low- have the alternator and battery checked under load by an auto electrician If the battery is old, it may hold the charge but still not be good enough to crank.

Assuming you have already checked the fuse, you next culprit on the list is liquid spill to this cluster. Happens all the time and fortunately easy fix. You can access the underside of this pannel by removeing the jockey box. (Five screws in the bottom of the center console box). The spills and other gunk accumulate over time and short or immobilise the switch(es). You may get some results with a can of compressed air without having to remove the box.

VW Touran very strong diesel smell

Normal a dripping injector makes a knocking noise when you first start up. To me it sounds like a leek. Try looking at the pipes any were above the exhaust or turbo. For the smell to come in to the car the leek will probably be at the front. I'm only guessing here. But I had the same thing on my range rover and it was a joint in the fule pipe spraying on to the block..Good luck

1999 landrover range rover 2.5 diesel put petrol

I would start by looking for the valve on the fuel rail (or at the filter housing), if you disconnected the fuel pipe from the filter feed you will have a lot of air in the system (and diesels do not like air in the feul system) you will need to have someone crank the motor over while you push in on the schrader valve to release the air out of the system until you get fuel to flow steady out of that port (this may take a short period of time), then you should be able to start the vehicle... would also recommend replacing the fuel filter as well. Hope this helps.

Check the fuel pressure when the vehicle is cold and compare it with when it's hot. Also check the fuel return dump valve , that this isn't returning too much fuel.
