Your car failed because they wont pass you until the light has been reset. the check engine light means the computer detected a fault in a sensor or system that may need repair..you"ll need access to a shop or someone who has an obdII diagostic reader and see what was faulted..you might get lucky and can have the fault reset. If there is a true failure in the system the light will come back on again and repair will be needed. usually the code will tell you which component or sensor has failed. if you like you can purchase one of these devices from an Autoparts store for around $100..these more expensive models are preferred because they not only will reset the fault but will list the code and tell you exactly which sensor has failed... that is if your car has an obdII type system diagnostic connector; usually located under the drivers steering column.

No, it is a waring device that signals a failure in the electronic engine or emission controls, this can be 100's of dii things that set the light off, when the light is on a fault code is stored in memory for the problem, u will need the system tested to determine that fault code and it's meaning

If the check engine light is on, go to your local auto parts superstore, and have them scan the computer for the fault codes. This is usually no charge. The results will point you in the right direction as to why the computer is sensing a fault. Almost always, state inspection facilities will fail a car if the check engine, or service engine light is on.

This is common in the Nissan's could be the cam and crank sensor these go at around 70000 to 120000 should do both at once to be safe. that will fail an emissions test for sure. hope this helps

Passing smog

code p 1340 refers to crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor signals out of sequence
the results of the pretest smog test at 2400 rpm suggest that the cam advance solenoid or system is failing
that will alter the sequence of the signals resulting in the code and failing of the smog test
as to answer you question , I am not convinced at this point but I consider the cam advance system to be at fault and would be testing in that area

The person running the test is an idiot. The OBDII test instrument is not capable of determining if there is a warning lamp failure. It is probably guessing based on voltage level, but lamp resistance does normally vary. The test is supposed to be done visually. Take it to someone else, and they will probably be more competent and pass your car.

Failed smog check, engine light stuck on

The first thing i would do is take your car to autozone and have then scan the computer for trouble codes they do this procedure for free, then you can better diagnose why the check engine light on your car is illuminated, as far as failing your smog test that could be a number of reasons why that happened, you could have a bad O2 sensor, a bad catalytic converter, your engine can be burning oil due to worn or bad piston rings or bad valve guide seals, but i would first figure out why the check engine light is on it could be a simple fix or a major repair, theres no point in guessing until the computer is scanned further...

Prerunner wont pass smog due to engine service light

Not positive on this so consider only. The o2 sensor is what actually tells everything else what is going on with emmission and everything else adjusts to what info it relays. The o2 is also subjected to extreme temps and cooling cycles. So, instead of spending money on no answer diagnostism give replacement of o3 sensor so consideratio. If you choose to replace, wd40 and let exhaust cool down. Good Luck.
