Call the auto parts store and tell them you are doing that.
They can look it up on their computor with ac or without ac, and get the right belt.
Some vehilces don't have a listing for no ac and can't be bypassed.

You wont be able to because it will mess up every system that runs off of your serpentine belt. all you need to do is gut the compressor and re-install it as a dummy pully. if you dont, the ratio for your alternator, water pump, power steering, etc. will all get screwed up andthe car will not run right and it could seriously damage other parts.

Why would bypassing the ac compressor change the speed of anything else turning the speed of the belt is determined by the speed of the crank pulley

The a/c pully on the pump is shot, can I by pass the pump with a new belt (non a/c belt)?

There are a few companies which make a bracket with a pulley to eliminate the A/C. There are some concerns when you do this because the engine controls for the idle speed may still engage an increased RPM because the Defroster setting is made to activate the A/C compressor in the Fall to lube the internal compressor parts. If you eliminate the compressor, there will be no drag to slow the engine.

Replacing the A/C clutch. Some can be changed on the car without losing the Freon. Some allow for just the bearing to be replaced without replacing the clutch also on the car.

The bearing may be cheaper than the eliminator bracket and pulley. Some autoparts stores have Loaner tool programs with pulley tools. Just watch for Left-hand threaded components when you try to disassemble the Compressor.

You might try to blog another site for the removal of the A/C clutch on this make and year vehicle. Fixya has some data, but year to year variations are not guaranteed. You need a real Chysler guy to help you on this.

I need a serpentine belt routing diagram to eliminate A/C compressor that is bad. The vehicle is a 2003 Ford Taurus with DOHC V6

A company named MOTORMITE makes a pulley assembly (by-pass kit) just for this purpose. You simply remove the compressor and the pulley bolts in where the compressor was. This way, you can use the same belt and belt routing as the original. (see picture)

The part number for this by-pass kit is 34166
It is available at AutoZone and other parts retailers for around $40.

yes just make sure nothing else is engauged with that belt if so you need to replace with a shorter belt to run to the other pullys if the belt only runns to the compresser then you can remove it.. i hope this helps

How to replace EGR valve

the EGR valve is located near the Alternator. You will need to jack up the passenger side, remove the wheel, Remove the splash shield, and then remove the serpentine belt. check to see that there is a belt routing guide under the hood. If not make your own so you know how to put the belt back on.

With the belt off you can remove the alternator (i would recommend disconnecting the battery to eliminate the possibility of grounding the power cable to the alternator). There will be one bolt that is kind of hidden behind where the a/c lines are routed to the compressor. Once the alternator is out of the way you can then remove the two bolts holding the EGR to the side of the head.

Hyundai Motor 2002 Elantra Air Conditioning repair.. Is the A/C necessary for the 2002 GL model? Can the belt be cut and the A/C not used? The A/C compressor has the rubber bushing falling out of it and...

Hi!!

The answer is NO, you don't need the A/C for your moror to worik. You can safely bypass the compressor.

Since your present belt is already worn, (make sure you have the belt routing label, if not, take a picture of it just to be safe), cut it and wrap it around the rest of the components, including the belt tensioner, if possible, have someone retract the tensioner while you get the exact size of the new belt, in case that there is nobody around, get the size with the tensioner released and substract 3" - 4" from the total size.

Once you have the belt size you need, take it to an Auto Parts store, they should be able to give you a belt sized to your specs.

Good Luck!! Let me know how it worked out.

Need to bypass ac compressor

Hi yotaguy,
You will need to buy a By-Pass pulley, due to the placement of the other pulleys you will not be able to eliminate the ac and still run the correct routing of the belt.
I will research the price of the pulley and post it here.
Please rate this solution, the only compensation I receive for my time is the knowing I have helped and the rating I receive here on Fixya.
