The code found P2097 is 1/2 O2 sensor rich (downstream- below the catalytic converter). Your previous code is related to the same O2 sensor.

I would recommend replacing the O2 sensor then go from there. If it returns then you will have to start testing the wiring. I would recommend changing the O2 sensor now if you are able to.

It is simple to replace and easy to get to. The trip would be a good chance after the repair to see if it returns with the number of miles you would be driving.

WHAT CAUSED ERROR CODE P2097 ON 2005 CARAVAN? - 967543a.gif

1. Oxigen Sensoir connector
2. Catalytic Converter
3- Downstream Oxygen Sensor
4. Engine Harness connector.

It can have an effect on engine performance and fuel economy. So the sooner you replace it the better. I dont believe it will leave you stranded on the road anyway by any means so I wouldnt worry about that if you arent able to replace it right away before the trip. If you need more help or have more questions then let me know and I will help you further.

Hope heplp with this (remember rated this post).

Maybe as simple as bad tank of gas. Possible failure of an O2 sensor, probably the downstream one after the cat. converter. Or failure of the Cat. converter itself. Have it checked out.

Can a check engine light with and error code of EGR cause black soot in the tailpipe of a 2005 dodge grand caravan???

Hi. The black soot is that your engine is running too rich. I would have checked out the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor tells the computer how much gas is needed to run your car. If the sensor is malfunctioning or dead the computer will make the engine run with more gas (rich) Go to your mechanic and have him run the code scanner. I would also clean out the EGR valve which you can do yourself. Good luck

most car washes have a under carrage wash now days.
I bet my money those sensors are exposed to the jet spray from the under carrage spray and causing water to get into the connectors, happens to me all the time but affects my coil system and the engine picks up a missfire,Gary

I HAVE A 1999 Dodge Caravan, driving along 10mph engine stopped running, would not start after stopped. Replaced crankshaft, camshaft sensor, coil pack, fuel pump, checked fuses, relays, still no start,...

Did your Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light come on? If so, there is an error code (Diagnostic Test Code or DTC) stored in your Caravan's onboard computer. Have the code read and interpreted, and you can google the results to see which system triggered the code. If no light came on, you may want to check your fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and breaker points/inductive pickup (depending on how the engine is equipped). Other possibilities include carburetor or throttle body injectors malfunctioning. Many possible causes, but the DTC route is easiest to check. Good luck.

There is some sort of diagnostic code stored in either the ECM(engine computer) or TCM(transmission computer). There are many sensors and solenoids and other data parameters that can cause a codes to set other than just the oxygen sensors. You will need to have the code(s) pulled to know where to start.

Check Engine Light won't go off

If you have an Advance Auto Parts store where ever you are, they will read the code and tell you exactly what to code is and what it means. Any mechanic who "guesses" isn't a mechanic at all - he's a thief. Emissions leak can be any number of things, but not the gas cap!

Where is the obd receptacle located?

you can also read the OBD system by using the check engine light itself, simple rotating the key on and off will cause the light to flash. the exact number of times to rotate will be found in a repair manual. P.s. the OBD connector is under the steering wheel

Po700 and p1776

P0700 is EATX code present. It simply means that the engine computer has noticed that the transmission computer has a dtc in it. This causes the Pcm (engine computer) to turn the check engine light on. You will need to have the TCM (trans computer) checked for codes to know what to diagnose.

error code P1776 - Replace rear solenoid switch

Likely both related The P1776 probably kicked off the P0700 notification.

Hope that helps! Happy Motoring!

To check the code for the engine light without OBD tools for dodge caravan is to switch on the key 3 times without starting the car and you will see the code displayed on the Odometer display. Then check for the document what king of engine problem for that code.
