If you can't move the gear selector then your shift cable is rusted stuck. If you can move your shift cable it might have broken.

If I misread the question and your shift cable is fine, please read the following.

It is in "limp mode". You should be getting a blinking D or S light on your gauges. One thing it could be is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). The other would be your TCU (Transmission Control Unit). Here is a picture of one when it is burned out. This is located under the pass side floor carpet (on the slant) It's the smaller box of the two underneath the metal cover.

I would recommend buying a Haynes book and reading the procedure.
If you have a place to work on it, and the tools, its not impossible. But you have to be careful to put the belt back with the timing marks in place.

I have a f20a motor in a 91 accord can I put a 2.2 motor without having any major problems

I would only do this with a 92-93 EX Accord motor and keep it OBD0. I did this with no CEL codes, works perfect.

Swap the following parts from your old 91 engine to the 92-93 EX motor:

Intake manifold
Engine Wiring Harness
Distributor
Exhaust manifold (header)
Air Conditioner bracket and Air Conditioner Compressor

Keep your current ECU in the car. Put your transmission on the motor before you drop it in.

If you go to the 94-97 / 2.2 you will run into some additional sensors, crank position sensor, etc... with that motor since it switches over to OBD2 in 1996.

Good luck...

1998 honda accord automatic....when i change from

Make sure you report the problem to the National Highway Transportation Safety agency (www.nhtsa.gov). Also-research the web and you will find hundred similar complaints and a successful class action lawsuit in California against Honda for 1999-2001 Accord transmissions that showed the same malfunction code. The California settlement required Honda to repair transmissions and extend warranties up to 109,000 miles and 93 months.

These Transmissions are hard to FIX...I found very few rebuilders that can pull it off... They were recalled in 2000 ....sorry but it is no easy fix... the ONLY OTHER CLUNKING could be a problem is : your motor mounts are vacuum assisted meaning if you have a vacuum leak they will not stiffen the mounts correctly.... it sound crazy but look underneath you have small 5/16 vacuum lines near the radiator mount and some have it ont he firewall mount... I drive 99 Ex Accord!!!! rebuilt tranny 2 times !!!! make sure you get a warranty if you do...2000-2400 is a good cost....

I am purchasing a 1991 Honda Accord EX with 60,000 miles. The engine mounts need replaced to fix a vibration at stop lights. Any other issues that I should look at fixing as part of PM?

Yes, I always do the same thing when I buy a new vehicle that way I keep track of it and know exactly when it was done. first buy a new air filter, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, and maybe plug wires. check all belts and hoses. and change oil and filter. these things will pay for themselves. have fun. Wow a 91' with only 60,000 miles that's amazing. I've got 178,000 on my 93' accord lx and it's still running perfect!!
