Question about 1996 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

I have a 1996 pontiac sunfire that i just bought for my daughter. I thought the front end needed alignment but as it turns out the frame is cracked in the front near driver side wheel. The mechanic said he would fix it and the part is 200. Everyone I speak to tells me this is not possible. That you cant fix the frame. Is this true?

Without seeing pictures its hard to say, but if the crack is near the front drivers wheel,he could be talking about the lower control arm,try to clarify what he says is broke.
Frames can be fixed but not for 200

Does the humming noise reduce or change in pitch slightly when turning a corner?
Most likely a wheel bearing failure. Also, when one wheel bearing on one side fails, the other is not often far behind. I often therefore replace in pairs.

You may want to check the water pump if it's overheating, have the motor mounts checked if the vehicle is shaking and the alignment and tire pressure are fine, first check the fuses for the interior lights. As for the clicking sound in front tires - please provide further explanation as to the sound, speed of vehicle when it happens, and mileage on the vehicle - could be the CV's but not enough information to assess.

Can i put a pontiac grand prix gt engine into my

Not very cheap. For one the motor is substantially larger/wider and the hp/torque is over 2x's that of a sunfire so the unibody may not handle the extra power. You would have to use the complete front end from motor to trans to axles and ECu to run it. It would be very difficult but would be possible , dependin on the shop I would say $3000-$4000 as a lot of mods will be needed.

It sounds alot like a faulty ignition switch rather than a starter. The starter should never kick before moving to the start position.

it sounds like the immobilizer is faulty. this will shut off the electrical feed to the starter motor. you will need to take it to a garage to get this fixed.
