Hi Brandon, As you know horse power is expensive. One of the best cost effective horse power gains is the COLD AIR INTAKE You can move on to a mild cam - and also a chip. For now - I would install a cold air intake and also a performance chip. the chip will run you about 300.00 and the cold air intake depending where you but it about 150-300.00 The chip will simply wake up horsepower you know is there and that power is blocked when new with a downsized chip to pass emissions. The beauty of my ideas and these changes are they can be removed for inspection and then - WHAM - you're back on the race track in about an hour. Hope this helps FIX YA. Gary

Glad to see you're making progress. Do go for the performance heads but -- keep in mind yours is a sort of double duty and that you're looking for longer life too. I will tell you now heavy duty applications like this do NOT last as long as normal duty so keep in mind 65,000 miles of good engine compared to maybe 90,000. This is because the strain is always there on a high performance engine but you need it so - go ahead and get some high performance heads. Be sure the shop has done this before and don't be a Ginnie pig for them. I would go with a mild cam - one made for hauling it will far out weigh the shortened life and you may get 100,000 or more miles out of it with regular maintenance. The chip is the surest way to switch between normal and performance. As for cost sure - most likely from 4200 to 6100. I would think 5600 for your purpose is good. You can save some by looking for bargains and it takes a little longer but in today's economy a hundred here and a hundred there saved - is great.
    Best of it

How can I reset my '99 caddy sts's computer in order to pass my smog

You can use a code reader/coder clearer handheld device at any of the major auto dealers to clear the code. The device plugs into your dashboard on the left side of the steering wheel at the bottom.. Normally, you can clear the code and drive for about 15 minutes (maybe more if you are gentle on the gas) before the code appears again. These code readers cost about $80 to $100.

How much does a fuel evaporatin funtioal control syem cost to fix. It didn't pass smog is the car worth keeping it. I have a 1995 grand marquis

You can get it at a salvage yard there it is inexpensive. Now if the car is worth keeping that up to you but did it pass smog the gas part. so if you did buy that would that be all you need to get it to pass then we can say ya it worth it but if it needs an engine a transmission then no. So are you sure that this is all you need that is the question. and youll have to answer it safe. If it was me that smog it i would fail it Id pass it.

Check Engine Light has been on for 2+ years--Need smog test

you need to take it to a mechanic (avoid any vw specialists they will charge lots) if you can find a good honest mechanic he will be able to plug an onboard diagnostics tool into your car & override the check engine light it would take a couple of minutes & he shouldnt really charge you anything more than the cost of an hours labour, about $50nzd which you can probably halve if your using real currency(im in new zealand & monopoly money carries more value than the new zealand dollar)! But I suggest if its been 2 years since you last had someone look at it, that you get it serviced you will probably find that the mileage has just gone over 100000km or maybe 150000-200000km which will automatically switch the check engine light on! Hope this is helpful to you, & I'd shop around if any of them say anything like $3000 again!! Good luck

Since I no longer live in California, I don't care what you do but your problem sounds like the EGR system and if they replaced the valve, it isn't working, probably stuck open. This allows exhaust gases to invade the engine when it can't tolerate it; that path should only be open when the engine isn't pulling hard or at an idle. That widget also costs gas mileage so I always stuck a ball bearing or a screw into the vacuum hose that controls it disabling it so it never opened. On some vehicles that can give back 10-15% of your lost gas mileage. However, if the valve is stuck open, plugging the hose won't help at all.

Hi, my car today failed in smock check, the emissions test fail, and I don't know how to read de results, can you help me to read and fixed the problem?

Go to AutoZone or Kragen and get a $9.00 bottle of PASS ANY SMOG TEST or double
your money back (keep your receipt). You just pour it into your gas tank at a FILL UP and run
that gas down then refill your tank and take your Smog Test. It will pass. What state are you in??
What are your smog test numbers??
