Could be the coolant temp sensor:

To test it:

Perform this test on a cold or cool engine.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Unplug the electrical wiring from the sending unit.
  3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminal and the sending unit's metal body
    1. Infinite resistance or zero resistance: the sending unit is bad, replace the sender with a new one.
    2. Other than infinite or zero resistance: continue test.
  4. Remove the temperature sender from the engine.
  5. Position the sending unit so the metal shaft (opposite end from the electrical connectors) is in a pot of water. Make sure that the electrical connector is not submerged and only the tip of the sending unit's body is in the water.
  6. Heat the pot of water at a medium rate. While the water is warming, continue to measure the resistance of the terminal and the metal body of the sending unit:
    1. As the water warms up, the resistance goes down in a steady manner: the sending unit is good.
    2. As the water warms up, the resistance does not change or changes in erratic jumps: the sender is bad, replace it with a new one.
  7. Install the good or new sending unit into the engine, then connect the negative battery cable.
  1. With the engine cold, remove the ECT sensor.
  2. Immerse the tip of the sensor in container of water.
  3. Connect a digital ohmmeter to the two terminals of the sensor.
  4. Using a calibrated thermometer, compare the resistance of the sensor to the temperature of the water. Refer to the sensor resistance illustration.
  5. Repeat the test at two other temperature points, heating or cooling the water as necessary.
  6. If the sensor does not meet specification, it must the tempertature gauge does not work on my jeep - 75c7153.gif.

If the gauge fuse is alright then either the temperature sensor/sending unit is bad, the temperature gauge no longer functions, or there is a break in the temperature gauge wiring.

You can locate the temperature sensor/sending unit turn on the ignition and ground the wire to the temperature sensor/sending unit and watch to see if the temperature gauge moves, if it does move then replace the temperature sensor/sending unit.

If the gauge does not move when the ignition is on and the sending unit grounded, then there is a problem with the temperature gauge itself or the wiring to the gauge.

(Usually the temperature sensor/sending unit for the gauge has only 1 wire, the CTS "Coolant Temperature Sensor" to the computer usually has 2 or more wires)

I hope that this information was of any help to you.

do say this...please. details, matter....
it told you low fuel is it? is the fuel gauge near "E"
why not state that first.?
dead gauges, be 1st right, smacks of gross power loss.
right>? not clear to me what no gauges means.
but the voltmeter is #1 no?

did you tests fuse that look ok. fuse that look ok can be bad.
no gauges, means all dead, no movement,
well the fuel gauge must work , does it, does it match reality?
cranks but never runs. good input there.

does not run for the jeep 3 seconds.? (ASD rules)

WJ jeep
this jeep has a voltage gauge, it must read 12v keyon
if not power is lost, or battery low.
if cranks that tells me the fues blew.
skim cuts spark and fuel, not cranking btw.

see that lamp 12, if stuck on car will never start but will crank.
the lamp falses if skim is not working or stays on for ******* key.
we SCAN ALL CARS NOW.
IF You can not scan a modern jeep then it can near impossible to diagnose (a hard cold fact)
IF the ASD fails to work, the PCM tells you every time
all 8 ways for it to fail.
but that takes a scan tool (any modern scanner works,)

I changed the temp-sensor now the tempertature had goes up pass hot immeidatly whats wrong

  • An engine can't go from cool to hot just from turning on. So you have a bad sensor, a bad connector, negated wiring, or the gauge on your dash is bad.

  • When you installed your sensor it is important to note that while some use silicon (if an "O" ring did not come with the new one you should only use it on the upper part of the threads or there will be an insufficient ground at the tip of the sensor. Also some aftermarket sensors stink, I recommend using only OEM sensors for repairs.

  • Look at the connector and wiring real real well. You could have a wire shorting out or a real bad ground.

  • Your gauge could be off too. If you check everything real well and everything looks good then I would replace the sensor you have with an OEM sensor and then consider the temp gauge on your dash being faulty.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.
