As long as width , lug pattern and drum or disc match up will work , if ratio differs fuel mileage issues will occur , should be rear end code in glovebox for refernce

Will the transmission from a 1998 chevy 1500 fit in my 2001 chevy 1500

The transmission in question is called, "4L60E" There are two versions. The 4L60E ran from 1992-1997. Then the 4L60E was updated and ran that version from (1996-2010). In 2002 GM introduced the 4L65E. So YES you should not have a problem fitting a 1998 chevy 1500 with a 4L60E into a 2001 Chevy 1500 with a 4L60E. You didn't mention that both were 2wd or 4wd. You can not convert a 2wd into a 4wd. I hope that helps, good luck.

Rear wheel bearings

if i assume this is a 9 and 1/2 chrysler rearend...take the rear differential cover off..remove the screw tht holds the pin that passes through the spider gears then remove the pin. push the axle shafts inward til the c clips can be removed then slide the shafts out. you will need a bearing puller to remove the bearing and seal
