It was not better with a little gas pedal applied.

Do you think replace the starter will solve the problem?

  • cz_goldsmith Apr 30, 2010

I think maybe the starter was weak ( it has permanant magnet) so when the starter turn the engine a few turns it compress the intake air that why it stop and then go ( I heard the bell noise when it stop)the engine make some saking before it can started.

If it starts easier with a little gas pedal applied then the idle air control valve is bad.

well still if no codes are stored and it only dies at idle but runs fine off idle then the problem is most likely the idle air control valve. This the only part that will not set a code for this condition so what a pro does is he will test everything else and look at all the data using a data scanner. If nothing looks out of specs then he will change the IAC Without properly diagnosing this all we can do is guess

if the starter continues to turn the engine and the engine does not start then the starter is not the problem. If the starter stops turning the engine with the key turned to the cranking position then maybe it is a starter issue. I can only guess with the input you give which is pretty vague. Also some honda's will start when the oil level is low so check it also.

Knock sensor for Honda 1998 Accord LX

Duplicate question.
I doubt the sensor would make the engine stop running. The computer would slow down the spark timing to prevent engine knock, but not shut it off.

My 2003 Accord LX does the same thing. It started about 6mo ago and it becomes more and more often. I just went outside to kick the off from inside the wheel wells and the stereo came on.

No, you don't have to pull the engine. Many of those problems are fixed by removing the wheel, and the plastic inner fender. It's probably a crank seal, or a power steering hose. PS- You mean the passenger side... don't you?

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
