Question about 2000 Daewoo Leganza

1 Answer

Speedo is not working and can't find correct connecting part to the existing gear box. The part in the catalogue has a screw fitting to attach to the engine block but there is no corresponding hole on the engine block for this fitting. Has anyone else had this problem and how was it solved please?

Sorry, Im not a mechanic but according to my serviceman, there doesn't seem to be a hole on the transmission either to screw this part on to. My serviceman who is supposed to be for the Leganza can't find the part that fits. I think he has taken the old one off and now can't find where to attach the new one. Any clues?

What does the speedometer cable screw into before the transmission??

most speedo cables attached directly to the adaptor that holds the drive gear in place in the transmission housing. This adaptor can be removed and the gear comes out with it . The teeth can be inspected and if they are not full and in tact then it is possible that the meshing with the drive gear on the output shaft is not happening. replacement speedo gears are available but you will need the one you have as the gears have several different teeth ratios to allow for speedo corrections

Fixing speedometer

Try Mazda spares and check as the gears ratio's will be different for each model but the gear itself may still fit in your car. There are ratio change gear boxes from speed shops . These fit onto your gear box and the cable / sender unit fits onto it . The ratios are changed inside the little adaptor.

Electronic speedo is under reading 20 to 30kms an hour. Tyres recently changed ? seemed to start from then ? Hand brake light came on intermittantly Replaced the sensor unit by the gear box with one...

to get the speedo right you will need to fit the original size tyres with the correct speed rating which conforms to the certificate of homoglonation ,deviate from this and this is the problem you get also the vehicle will not pass the annual vehicle mechanical inspection because the tyres are not whats on the original certificate

My speedo does not work cable is ok it just stopped on the motorway after working ok checked the cable and it turns a both ends

With the cable attached to the speedometer ask someone to observe as you make few turns in a flash on the cable , if there is no noticeable deflection the speedo moving a little above the zero - parking position- then the speedometer cablke connection socket is worn out as it can become rounded off in long usage. If so adjust with a SHIM placed into the socket of the meter to wedge.
however is there is deflection then the pinion in the gear box connecting the cable is faulty , the worm gear must be worn out.

Speedo not working

Hate to tell you but your gonna have to redo everthing you did and recheck the speedo cable. Make sure you didn't stripe it or the gears inside the speedo and make sure its correctly installed and not kinked anywhere.
Now for the real scary part the other end of this cable goes into the transmission's output shaft. If you find that the cable's end at the speedo gauge and the gauge its self is a-ok ...then you have to inspect the cable at the tranny end and the gear it goes to. If cable is worn no big deal ( you buy a new cable and install) but if gear is worn Uh.. have to replace outputshaft on tranny to repair gear.
I'm hoping you didn't correctly install cable on speedo.
Good luck

Speedometer works then stops working

Chances are the nylon speedo drive wheel has worn and occasionaly catches gears the works and then misses and doesnt work. follow the speedo cable down to the gearbox where the cable fits into the box undo and pull the drive out and check the shape and condition of the gearing teeth, if the shape is like an hour glass with smoothed off teeth this is likely to be the problem. You may also have gearbox issues causing this wear.
