The starter is mounted under the intake manifold, the opposite side of where the exhaust manifold is. Unless the motor is overheating making the starter get hot, I would say the starter has high resistance and is getting hot. I would have the starter tested.

My car has plenty of battery to start car but car will not turn over.we traveled about10 miles and car would not start.let car sit for10 minutes cr started .new battery even though we had all lights.

When you say travelled 10 miles then would not start, do you mean it would not crank at all, or cranks but doesn't start? If no crank, could be faulty starter motor/solenoid getting heat soaked. If it cranks but won't fire up, more likely bad ignition module, coil, crank or cam sensor. They get hot and can fail just when hot.

no as long as its running the alternator will suply electric with it running out of fuel the pump and filter would have pulled all the muck from inside the tank put plenty of fuel in maybe quarter of a tanks charge battery after a few days it should be ok but if not get fuel filter changed hope this helps ivan

Is there a heat shield on the starter

I don't think there is a heat shield on the starter but, I wouldn't think that would be you're problem. I would try changing the ignition module. It's on the engine block, drivers side, I think. Usually when they are going bad they will shut off engine when they get hot. It won't crank until it cools off. After it cools engine will crank and run good until it gets hot again. Good Luck.

Starts up at home but won't start up again

Could be your starter. When it gets hot it wont turn over until it cools. I would check it out. Advanced Auto Store might analyze it free in your area.

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

Wont start after getting hot

You probably have a bad Crankshaft position sensor. Very common problem. Located on the engine block just above the starter motor. Hope this helps

My 2001 saturn wont start when you turn the key, the lights come

THE STARTER ITSELF IS PROBABLY THE ERRATTIC TROUBLE MAKER.YOU NEED A TEST LIGHT ON THE STARTER CONTACT TO VERIFY YOUR GETTING IGNITION SIGNAL TO THE STARTER.CHECK WHEN ITS NOT STARTING IF YOU DIDNT REPLACE IT ALREADY.
