If you are speaking of the cooling fan it has a temperature sensor either on the radiator or the water jacket of the engine that closes a circuit to allow the fan to come on . in that system there is also an cooling fan relay that provides power to that circuit. relays are located in a box under the hood.

My Subaru Outback overheats when the A/C/ is turned on. How do I fix this problem?

Things to check:
1. Radiator fan working properly.
2. Thermostat fully opening.
3. Water pump operating properly
4. Radiator not clogged
5. Radiator cap sealing properly, and holding correct pressure.
6. AC coolant full.

My van overheats and turns off automatically

You should have 2 cooling fans in front of your radiator. These are controlled by the computer. You have a temp sensor that tells the computer when to turn the fans on and off. Your problem could be this sensor. If it quits working properly and lets the engine heat up then the computer will shut off the engine to save the engine. When it cools down, you can start it again.

It is normal (required) for the condenser fan to continuously run while the ac is operating. It is like that on almost every vehicle.

Rover 25 1.4 2004 hot engine and radiator fan problem

Yes, it is possible to install a thermostat backwards, though unlikely. If the thermostat isn't opening properly, the hot engine coolant won't be flowing over the cooling fan switch and give you high temps. I would first determine if the thermostat was opening at all, and if it is, is it opening at the proper temp. I have had many new thermostats that, while new, didn't work correctly. To check the cooling fan motor, turn on the AC(if equipped) and the fan should engage. If no AC, disconnect the cooling fan switch, and the fan should engage. Check for power and ground at the fan motor. If you have both power and ground, the fan motor is faulty

1992 honda accord radio and ac stopped working

Make sure your fan is working properly. When you turn on the heater you are forcing the fan to cool the radiator. It may not be turning on automatically when it is supposed to. Let us know if this helps..

Fan not working and a/c not cooling properly

check for power at the fan, if no power at the fan check fan fuse and relay. If you have power at the fan and fan won't come on fan motor is bad.If you turn your A/C switch on and your key switch to the on position this should cut the fan on automaticly.

My radiator fan and ac fan are running constantly even when the motor is cold. allthe relays seem to be working properly. v6 gsl model

the radiator fan should come on when the a/c is turned on.
as long as you can turn the a/c off this is not a problem.
if you cannot turn off the a/c, make sure it is not switched on automatic, and check the switch is actually turning off. the a/c light should not be lit.

Z28 95 running hot

Is the fan running or do you have an electric fan? If fan isnt running or never comes on no matter what you do it will never run much cooler. If fan is good then you could flush the radiator a couple of times and that will help but if fan isnt working it wont last long

When the engine is hot the check engine light came on and the fan (is ok ) don't start

Hi:
How hot is it getting? Is it running hot? Is there water in it or is there a water leak? You may even have a stuck thermostat. How many fans does it have? What makes you think that the fan is working properly I mean if the air conditioner is on when it's running the fan (s) will run automatically, make sure the air isn't on when trying to see if the fan is working properly while the engine is running. Those fans comes on by use of a mercury thermal switch that is mounted in the water jacket in some cars. If the fan is workinf properly and the engine is overheating then it could be something as simple as very low water in the cooling system, if it's full and the fan is working properly you may have a bad thermostat.

Hope helpful
