The 'ding-ding-ding' that sounds when you don't fasten your seatbelt goes on as soon as i put the key in the ignition. it only stops when i have the engine running or the key setting that runs the battery when the car is not running. how do i get it to stop this (2001 Ford Escort Automatic)

i think i didn't explain well. it just doesn't stop from the time the key is put in. i always wear my seatbelt when driving, but it used to wait a while and then start dinging. i eat my lunch in my car and when it started dinging, i would fasten the seatbelt behind me and this would stop the dinging, but this doesn't stop it anymore. god, i hope i'm explaining this OK. so it's not that i want to DRIVE without my seatbelt on. i just want to be able to sit in my car without running the engine and enjoy my half-hour lunch.

You don't. It is there as a reminder to use your seat belt, you know that. Disconnect it and fail inspection in some states. You can thank all those poeple who never worn seat belts 30 years ago when it became a law,for the warning buzzer you don't care for.

How to stop the dinging sound when the seatbelt isn't connected

Does it ding when you are wearing your seatbelt? Or are you trying to bypass this safety feature and NOT wear a seatbelt? Seatbelts save lives.

Take the stalk apart and there are two contacts and a wire at the bottom that goes into the wiring harness. Check if the contacts are bent or broken.

Pontiac grand prix 2008 seatbelt chime

fastening seat belts is not always the answer as some sensors need weight to cancel the light after the seatbelt is fastened. best have it checked out by an auto electrician as the seats may have been changed and the wiring not properly connected.

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

Ignition alarm

I would say the switch is what you talking about
replacing,not the key cylinder

Never a simple solution to finding any problem, unless
the person working on the car gets lucky or has a sense
for certain problems on a some vehicles

It's probably your ignition not being exactly disconnected when you remove the key.Until you get a new ignition (keyswitch),just jiggle the switch with your fingers after you remove the ke7y and see if the dinging stops. my Aerostar has that problem right now. don-ohio

30 minutes or seconds? does the dome lamp come on, like one of the doors not closed all the way? A good repair shop or the Ford dealer can get a scanner and watch for the belts, doors, lights, ect ( I think thats the only thing that will ring a chime) as you drive and see whats making it go on.

Try looking for a wire that connects to the seat belt somewhere under the seat it could have become disconnected or cut. Also try taping the fastener with something like a hammer maybe a bit of WD-40 cause something might be sticking inside the fastener.

Is there a passcode or sequence to disable the

As far as I know that seat belt warning chime and light is there for your safety and protection, it should not be bypassed in any way.
There is no by pass seqwuence or code to eliminate this safety device.
Buckle up, its the law.

I have a 1997 toyota corolla that one of the chimes (seat belt, key ignition or lights) just started dinging and won't stop until the car is turned off.

Get in the car, make sure your dome light is set to door-operation.
Close all the doors, does the dome light go out?
If so, it's not the door ajar chime. If not, one of your door pin switches is defective.
Buckle your seatbelt, does the seatbelt warning light on the dash go out?
If so, it's not the seatbelt alarm. If not, it's the seatbelt buckle receiver.
The light warning works with the key off, so it is not that since turning the car off would not stop it.
Last thing it could be is the ignition key alarm.
I have seen a few malfunction over the years.
