Dear milleraba Sorry did not mean to be snobbish. Just got so many different answers from professionals. However, Monroe now makes SensaTrac QuikStruts, which can be installed as easily as Regular Shocks. Cost more, but a whole lot less labor, and the professionals evidently dont want us to know about them. Thanks

This is not a job for the novice. If you do get through the repair withour being injured, you will still have to go have your car aligned.

This is dangerous ... working with many unknown forces. If you are bent on doing this repair ... at least get to the library and read up on what you are up against.

Thanks for the feedback ... I am not a professional mechanic though there are pros (and kooks as well) who are volunteer question catchers here at IN case you didn't know, there is no big room at where questions are filtered and answered - actually - for the most part - answers come from volunteers (like me) who are working from their home or office - largely unpaid.

I have done this kind of front end work and I hope I never have to do it again. When I read your question, my thought was you are a guy just like me who wants to fix stuff but need a little guidance. This is a straight-forward though dangerous job with serious consequences for non performance. I replaced the struts on my 1957 English Ford, my 1981 Ford Futura and I did extensive work on m y daughters 1984 Berlinetta - dangerous, difficult stuff. Repairs never go as outlined in the manual either, by the way.

If you insist - please go to the public library and research the process before you get the tools out. Then, when you order the parts from your local auto parts place (do not order on line!) speak with the counter person who probably understands all the ins and outs of installation - he was 'trained' by the mechanics who come in all the time to purchase these parts. If you buy on line, you save $20.00 <> but you get no counter person to talk to you.

That is my thought my friend ... thanks for your interest in

I have a 1999 chrysler 300m and when i drive it pulls to the driver side and sometime it pulls to the passenger side plus on top of all this the front end pops when i turn and it sounds like the springs...

You need some front end work. Have checked ,the ball joints, tierod ends, wheel bearings, drag link, pitman and idler arms, and the swaybar links. your car should not pull both ways. have it checked and if you want to do this yourself let me know and I will guide you thru it.

How do I compress the front strut enough to get the nut on when replacing a 1997 Chrysler cirrus front strut?

One needs a special tool called a 'spring compressor' to compress the front strut spring enough to remove the nut on the strut. Very dangerous without the tool. Must use the spring compressor to service the strut assembly, or get a loaded strut/spring assembly to replace old strut assembly.

Good luck on this.

2003 300M hesitates or stutter stops when applying the brakes whats wrong?

If it has struts you might need to replace the front ones, if not then you might look into having your front end looked at, if all else fails get new front brakes and have the front end greased and new shockes aswell as have someone check the tie rod ends and check your steering wheel for any play when turning to the left or right if so then you need new tie rod ends .
