brake lights will not come on when pedal is depressed. fuses and brake pedal switch check good. turn signal jiggled and manipulated and still brake lights will not come on when pedal is depressed. check all bulbs and they are good, suspect short of some sort.

Fuse 5 15amp goes to brake switch, check red/grn wire for 12v hot all the time, if ok press pedal and check for 12v on grn wire. if ok then check 12v at rear lighs on grn wire. if ok replace both rear bulbs or add a ground to the body of the bulb to confirm you did not loose the ground connection.

a short means that the 12v is touching metal somewhere which would pop a fuse. Since no fuse is popped then you have no short. Only two options are left. Press pedal and check for 12v all the way to the brake light. If you have no 12v at the bulbs ( check both sides of car ) then you have an open somewhere between the fuse to brake switch or from the brake switch to the bulb. If you add 12v at any point strait from battery using a jumper wire and the lights come on then the problem is before that point. If you add 12v at the bulb and still no lights then you lost the ground. How a light works is in a easy way for you to understand is think of the battery. You have two post. plus and negative

Put a load like a light inbetween and it should light up. One connection touched the point on the bottom and the other touches the body that wraps around the bulb. Your car does not show the wiring goes thru the turn indicator so the problem is either the brake switch or a loose or broken connnection somewhere or both bulbs are burnt out. If your blinker works and the brakes do not then what I say is true. If the blinkers do not work and the brake lights do not work then the blinker switch is the problem . My info from mitchell is not always accurate so sometimes I can't be conclusive. Hope this helps

by the way at what point do you not have 12v, Are you using a meter to check or a test light. If you have a weak connection only getting say 10v then that will cause the lights not to work. A test light will give you false inforamtion. You need a digital meter capable of actually reading a 12v signal to be sure.

If you are certain that the brake light switch is functioning, and that the fuse is good, then the turn-signal switch is the most likely culprit. Try turning the ignition to the run position so that the dash lights come on, then step on the brake pedal and wiggle around the turn-signal switch and look to see if the brake lights flash, flicker, or come on, if they do then replace the turn-signal switch.

2002 lancer the brake lights don't work

Check the fuse, if the turn signals are working in the back, the bulbs are ok. If the fuse is good, check the brake switch, it's under dash, near the top of the brake pedal. Either the button is stuck and not popping out when the brake pedal is pressed, or the switch is bad.

2002 lancer all lights work but the brake lights don't turn on

Check your stop light switch, mounted on the upper portion of the brake pedal, it has an electric plug in attached to it, it should be why the brake lights are'nt working.
