Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

1 Answer

My 2000 chevy silverado 5.3l starts fine, but after it has sat for a little while... i go to take off out of my driveway, and it boggs out bigtime! i have replaced both the fuel pump and fuel injector pressure sensor within the last month and they are both in perfect workin order. ive also replaced the fuel filter. MAF sensor? fuel injectors? please...any ideas would help.

it idles well and starts quickly though, no sputter or anything at idle...it only happens basically on the first and second takeoffs after i start the truck, and then its fine. thats why i thought it might be the injectors because even clogged it will idle fine but when the engine needs more gas to take off, and the injectors cant provide it...the air/fuel ratio leans out bigtime and it can sputter. but then again, it should always do that when i step on the gas...also when getting on the highway and loading the engine to 3/4 throttle or so, it will start to go, lose a little power, then snap out of it and pick up to speed perfectly. maybe a torque converter lock-up problem? idk...

the plugs were just changed about 5 weeks ago, the wires too!

so im leaning towards clogged/broken injector jets. if you agree thats the next place to look than thats what ill do! thanks for the help...its hard to find people online who know as much about how all of these automotive systems work as i do, sometimes i just need a reaffirmed opinion until i take action.

Hi! Before going to the fuel injectors please have the MAF checked. It really has a big contribution on engine performance specially on the idling. The MAF may need replacement for it may have been faulty due to long time use. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

Alright, you can forget the MAF for it idles good. Fuel injectors will be next and please have a good look on the sparkplugs for it may be full of carbon thats why it cant burn much fuel. Sparkplug replacement will be a great idea.

Common problem on that model chevy. Check the fuel regulator to make sure is not leaking. Allow it to run for a few minutes and shut it off then pull the vacuum line off of it. If there is fuel in there that it is leaking. If that checks out it will most likely be the fuel pump. If you cycle the key a few time then it starts fine it will be the pump

I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado. First gear doesnt work??

If trans fluid is full, it's shot. You could remove pan and check to see if filter is blocked but if fluid smells burned and there is a lot of debris in pan, don't bother with it...just get another one!
