Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

1 Answer

Loud road noise in the front

There is a kind of loud road noise in the front of our 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer. It seemed to begin when we changed to winter tires and we attributed the problem to that. When we changed back to summer tires today, it is now worse. Sounds like the car is constantly riding on rumble strips. Would that possibly be the ball bearings. Thanks

Yes it could be a bad hub but to be sure it would need to be inspected.

You mentioned the noise was from the left (drivers side) front. The compressor is on the passenger side in association with the engine compartment. Question, once the noise starts does it continue while stopped or only while moving?

how bad are the tires ??
that's usually the problem, also the weight in the back counts, your back end is lighter that the front and some cars just don't have the grip needed.
but check the tires

Change the tire. Your tires might be worping from the inside. I had the same problem. It might need an aligment too.

New tires

Typically new tires reduce road noise. It can also greatly depend on what type of tire you purchased. Head to www.tirerack.com and search for the tire you purchased and see if the reviewers attribute it to added road noise.

The installer also could have incorrectly balanced them, which could also add to noise and should be corrected as promptly as possible.
