Replace the unit with a used one. Be sure to get alignment after you are finished.

Chevy 2002 2500 series, 4x4 will not engage, when shifted into 4wd a kind of grinding noise comes from the front like gears are not meshing.

No hubs on 2002 Chevy 2500. I'd check the front axle actuator (engages front axle when 4WD is engaged). Belive it's on the passage side axle tube of front differential. Could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like. Or the front ring/pinion is shot. They don't turn when not in 4wd.

Flat tow or dolly towing for an 2000 S10 Chevy Blazer

If you dolly it you put wear on the wheel bearings and ring and pinion in the differentials on the front or rear depending on what axle you raise.

You must remove the rear cover on the differential and then the spider gears, then the center pin bolt and the pin then push in on the axle and remove C clip retainer inside the gear carrier and slide axle out.

I need to remove the front axle out of the differential on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500? What is the best way to pull it out. I already have the half shaft taken off I just cant get the solid axle out of the...

when removing the front axle i believe that you must open the front differential cover and inside the dana you will see a small 8mm bolt located on the spider gear center it holds the pin bar in place and the pin bar holds both the upper and lower gears in place with a small washer below them. be careful when you pull the pin bar out to make sure the gears stay in place (upper and lower) do not let the washer fall out of the spider cage assembly. Then, carefully slide the U pin that holds the axle in (there are two of them one for the left axle and one for the right). Once the U pin slides off the axle the axle should slide all the way out of the whole differential - Note if the U pin you see at the end of the axle does not come off easy just push the axle IN ward towards the center of the differential and then slide it out with a small screw driver ..

These are most likely part of the accident damage. While you are fixing this double check to make sure that the axle on the side that was hit isn't bent as well. Also check the axle tubes from the differential to make sure they aren't bent either. An accident that had enough force to break a spring and bend a driveshaft is strong enough to bend the other parts as well. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Check the axle and tubes carefully and be sure. Hope this helps.

Cant get the front differential out

  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2. Remove the right wheel.
  3. Position a drain pan under the axle.
  4. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  5. Remove the skid plate.
  6. Disconnect the right inner tie rod end at the relay rod.
  7. Remove the axle shaft flange bolts, turn the wheel to loosen the axle from the axle tube, push the axle towards the front of the truck and tie it out of the way.
  8. Unplug the indicator switch and actuator electrical connectors.
  9. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid from the case.
  10. Remove the axle tube-to-frame mounting bolts.
  11. Remove the axle tube-to-carrier bolts.
  12. Remove the axle tube/shaft assembly. Keep the open end up.
  13. Position the axle tube, open end up, in a vise by clamping on the mounting flange.
  14. Remove the snapring, sleeve, connector and thrust washer from the shaft end.
  15. Tap out the axle shaft with a plastic mallet.
  16. Turn the tube, outer end up, and pry out the deflector and seal.
  17. Using a slide hammer and bearing remover adapter, remove the bearing.
  18. Clean all parts in a non-flammable solvent and inspect them for wear or damage. Clean off all old gasket material.

Can not remove rear axle on chevy avalanche 4x4 1500.

you will need to take off the differential cover (drain and change diff oil at this time)

rotate the axle so that you can get at the cross pin and remove it by undoing a small bolt that holds it in place. it should slide out with ease, but i have had them stick, take care not to let the cross pin get lodged where it is difficult to extract

a single C-clip is holding each axle inside the differential housing

you will need to push in from the outer end of the axle, while simultaneously manipulating the C-clip off of the inner axle, repeat this same process on the other side

i will put some of pics up in a minute
