Question about 2002 Nissan Maxima
Try to lift the the back passenger seat to see if you can access the fuel pump access, most maxima have access under the seat, you may not need to drop the tank.

Typically you have to drop the fuel tank. the sending unit is accessed from the top of the fuel tank. Sometimes you can access from the top through access panels, but not usually.
