Question about 2005 Ford Futura

Open Question

Hi is it possible to replace a leaking heater core without taking the dash out of a BA falcon. If not how do you remove the dash? I currently have all the bottom half removed but cant seem to find my way though the hetal frame. Cheers and thanks Smithy

You see ford charge 8 hours labour for replacing the shaft!
A job that at most should take 3 hours. I would hunt around and get some quotes from a Radiator Repair shop or Air con specialist rather then Ford dealerships.

Just had the same thing happen to my BA. No hot air. I'm a bit of a handyman so I had a go myself. 8 Hours is a reasonable estimate. You have to remove the steering column and entire dashboard to get the bugger out. Not a job I would attempt again.

From what you say ,the shift mechanism has come loose from the side or the trans,or a linkage has fallen off.The ba has a good box so I doubt is the trans.Just a change linkage has come loose.Hope this helps.(Iam in oz)

This is a really easy job, disconnect the heater hoses at the firewall, go inside the truck on the passenger side there is a plastic panel/cover over the core, 6 bolts/screws I think, remove the cover pull the core, tops 1 hour, as job at work I did them in 20 minutes.

Firstly, you need to remove the rear splash shields from within the rear wheel arches and also the tail lights. Then remove the scrivets from the lover edge of the bar. Next remove the scuff plate at the boot opening and fold the carpet back. There are four nuts which hold the bar on, undo these and then lift the sides of the bar up and pull out. The bar has large clips on the side which hold it in place.

2002 Ford Ranger Extended Cab Heater Core Replacement


Not an easy job. Drop the steering column and remove the dash first. Then remove the plenum. Core is between the plenum and fire wall. Get a manual. Your saving hundreds doing it your self. 30 dollars for a manual is worth it.

Leaking heater core


No, but you may get by just removing the passenger side, without taking the whole dashboard off. If what I looked up is correct its located near the glove box. Behind the dash. The hardest part of this job is getting that dash back on. If you only have to take off the one side that will help immensely!

How do i remove the heater core from a 1988 audi 90? ... my heater core blew and i was wondering if i can get to it from under the dash or if i will have to remove the entire dash to get to it?


If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.

Can I get to the Heater Core without going through the engine. (Maybe the side wall?)

Do I need to remove the dash to remove a heater core in a 1998 Volvo S70 non turbo 5 cylinder?


Don't remember exactly , but I think it could be done without dash removal.
It's done from driver side footwell area , tight but possible.
You have to take out lower center consol side cover , next to the accelerator pedal and roll the carpet out of the way, and you will see the heater core case. Remove cover on the case (some have it on the side , some on the bottom).Two pipes going from firewall to the core have to be disconnected before core removal (will leak coolant , have some rags on the floor to absorbe it).
Slide heater core out , put new one in gently as the accelerator pedal is on your way , try to avoid damaging core a lot.
Always replace heater core pipes o-rings.

Leaking heater core in a 1999 Ford Explorer.


this is real easy -- the heater core is under the passenger side of the dash --- should be able to replace without removing the dash -- might have to remove part of the glove box

Heater core needs to be changed


when your heater core goes bad, generally it leaks inside the car and can leave a odor of antifreeze. It can effect colling of the engine...so I would change it.

It is behind the dash..but not a huge deal..take your time some saturday afternoon & youll have it
