How to remove rear struts

Remove or disconnect the following:
Hold the hex on the attaching link stud while breaking the nut loose. The attaching link does not have to be removed from the strut.
Rear wheel
Caliper assembly and rotor from the hub, if equipped with rear disc brakes
Brake flex hose from the support bracket and wheel cylinder, if equipped with rear drum brakes. Plug the brake flex hose to prevent system contamination. Do not allow the rear caliper to hang by the brake hose. Support the caliper off of the frame with a strong piece of wire.
Speed sensor cable routing bracket and tube, if equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
Lateral links to the rear spindle assembly bolts
Rear strut assembly-to-stabilizer bar attaching link at the stabilizer bar
Remove the rear spindle-to-strut assembly pinch bolt. Install a center punch in the hole on the spindle and tap the punch into the hole until jammed. This will spread the spindle casting allowing it to be removed from the strut.
Using a hammer, tap on the top surface of the spindle, driving the spindle down and off the end of the strut assembly. Let the spindle and assembled components hang from the trailing arm while the strut is being serviced.
From inside the trunk of the vehicle, remove the 3 upper strut mounting bolts and remove the strut from the vehicle.
Disassemble the strut by performing the following procedure:
Service of the coil spring requires the use of a coil spring compressor tool. It is required that 5 coils be captured within the jaws of the compressor tool.

How much would it cost to get new struts on a 1995 olsmobile cutlass supreme?

well I cant tell you that, given your location there would be different pricing, but a good thing to do is call around and get prices from several places, and get prices for just the strut without installation. this will give you a better idea of what is acceptable. I usually charge 75.00 per set (front or rear), when they buy the parts. there is what is called a ready strut, and it is a complete assembly with strut/spring, and upper mount all ready to install. they range from about 180.00, to 285.00. hope this helps.

Just had radiator flushed and refilled same with transmission new struts on front end and shocks on rear and front rotor and pads now i have a noise like bolt stuck in the tire and it starts at 30 mph...

sounds like you may have not gotten the bolt in the caliper mount right. I have had cars come in with this problem and the caliper lays on top of the rotor and does not make noise unless it' moving. Pull the front wheels off and check to see that the bolts are in their prospective holes. Next if you don't find that as a problem look a the strut bushings they may be damaged, to check raise the wheel off the grind with a jack and put a bar under the wheel and lift up and down quickly. If you hear a bump you have found the problem. Also sometimes the strut springs come loose check that the spring does not turn in the strut housing. Hope this helps.

How hard is it to replace the front struts on a 04 murano also any specail tools or problems , Also I checked at Nappa and they go for 168 each? is this a good price or look for cheaper? Thanks

Yes you need a strut compressor not the macpherson style of old days. You need to remove alot of stuff, like the brake calipers, the wheel bearing lock pin,the front abs sensor, then remove the strut/spring assembly. You need an air wrench. Try pepboys or ntb for a better price, installed. Don't try this on your own based on what you said. Serious injury or death will result from improper use of tools or wrong installation.

My ES 300 Lexus has almost 80,000 miles

Price seems a bit high...just looked up struts at NAPA and found the most expensive were about $225 each. allowing for really high labor charges for all work, I came out with about 1250 complete. If the techs are very slow, or the labor charge very high, price still seems high. 80k is really pushing it on lifespan on struts...they are probably dead. Any competent shop can do this work...I'd shop around a bit. Usually chain store shops like peppyboys and others are not good places to bring a high-line vehicle. Check with friends to see who is most satisfied with the shop they use.
