The location could be anywhere. The easy way to tell is ground the coil wire, remove #1 spark plug. Place your finger over the plug hole, and have someone bump the engine over, in small incriments. When on the compression stroke, massive push of air out the plug hole. STOP. Observe timing marks, if they are nearby, the current rotor position will be pointing to number 1.

I have 351 motor and have tdc but the rotor is pointing toward #8 is that right?

Depends.
If you have tdc on the number one cylinder, and it is tdc on the compression stroke, then the rotor should be close to cyl one.
A four cycle engine has four up and down strokes, compression, power, exhaust, and so on.
Depending on the make model and year, the firing order could be 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 which would mean the timing chain or the distributor is one cylinder too far advanced if it is pointing to number 8.

1983 f150 351w distributor cap placement

I assume its a V8 and probably a 5.0L

5.0= 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order

5.0 HO and 351 Windsor share 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order

Cylinder numbering:

When looking into the engine bay the number one cylinder should be on your left hand side (left bank) at the front of the engine. The number eight cylinder is on the rear right (right bank) up against the firewall.

Firewall
4 8
3 7
2 6

I need the correct firing order diagram for a 1982 ford f150 351 windsor please help at least a link to a site

The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

firewall

4 - 8

3 - 7

2 - 6

1 - 5

front

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.

How to install distributor wire the order I misted the order

Depending on what engine you have, hear are the firing orders:
Small block 302 or big block 460: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
Small block 351: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Looking at the engine from the front, cylinder number 1 is at the front on your left. That side is numbered 1-2-3-4. Number 5 cylinder is at the front on your right and the numbering is 5-6-7-8. The distributor spins counterclockwise. Number 1 is usually marked on the cap. If not, no.1 on the cap is about 1 o'clock as you're looking at it from the front. Good luck!

I need to know the correct Distributor Cap Wiring Sequence and the order of the sequence ( clock wise, or counter) and Starting Point for a 1993 Ford F-250 LX 2 wheel Drive Truck 5.7 Liter, Automatic

Number 1 should be marked on the cap. It's at about the 11 or 12 oclock position looking from the radiator. It turns counter clockwise. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 for a 351 (5.8)

I would like to know about an engine number they say it is number C5AE6016 (5B11W)its in a 65 F/B date 13T engine code A unit no. 157042 was there a 6016 block???

Yes. It had larger main caps than the typical 289 block. However there are variations on the theme and you could see a smallblock with a 6016 that predates the 289 alltogether (260 or smaller) as well as into the 70s even on a 351 windsor! Hopefully you have a hipo 289 bottom end with the larger caps and thats all you need to know.
