Question about 1981 Chevrolet Corvette

I'm installing an after market radio on my 82 vette, but i don't know which is the power lead for the power antenna. anyone know?

Usually the blue wire from the stereo is for the remote amp and/or power antenna. If you haven't cut off the stock radio plug, I would check into getting a stereo harness adapter for the stereo. Most auto stereo shops can get them.

Get sound on radio install.


Your 2004 Vibe may have been equipped with a radio or a radio and separate amplifier. The BLU/WHT wire supplies +12 V to the radio. The radio ground wire is BRN. A GRY wire powers dial illumination. The BLK/WHT wire you mention is either the antenna input or a sensitivity control input to the amplifier. There also may have been a WHT mute control wire connected to the amplifier. The Vibe has an antenna amplifier which needs +12 v. The aftermarket radio should have separate LF, RF, LR, and RR outputs to connect to the corresponding speakers or amplifier inputs.

I installed a new radio, everything works except the power antenna??


does the power antenna sense the power lead of the radio . Did you somehow disconnect a sensor wire from the radio power wire when installing the new radio.
This might be the cause of the power antenna not going up when radio switched on ?

I would check the connections on the grid, if they are ok you have to live with yagi effect.

I was having this problem with the Honda radio and I have since replaced it with an after market one. I still have the problem with needing to disconnect the battery for the radio to work for a little...


a new radio?, or used, make and model # , must i guess?
all modes on the radio dead, AM/FM,CD/USB/IPOD jack
ALL, that be the first tests and if all bad that means you lost power.
does the radio scan? show signs its trying? when asked, LCD live? or dead. all i know is the word PROBLEM (vast possible)
did you ask the maker of said radio.
did you follow the new radio's instructions sheet.?

disconnecting the battery, wow !

the radios can have 3 or 4 power pins.
1: Radio power (head end power)
2: dial light (goes to car park dimmer)
3: some have a memory wire, if not connected all programming will be lost. this must go to HOT ALL TIMES line.
4: electric antenna, (it's an output but is power)]

and at least 1 good speaker connected.
and for AM/FM any test antenna or just a wire 12ft long works.
the radio can be bench tests.
1 battery 12v
1 radio
1 speak or 2.
1 antenna. now can test for days like this..... anyone.

Land rover discovery series 2 How do i plug in to the wirinng harnes from a after market stereo to the factory harnest from land rover i cant get sound from the speakers


it is a possibility that it can't be done that way, after market radios usually have to be wired into the wiring harness they don't just plug in for the simple reason vehicle manufacturers want you to use their radios & equipment NOT after market radios etc , you may have to get a auto radio installer to fit it for you otherwise if you don't know what you are doing it could be more costly in the long run......hope this helps......cheers.

Very bad am radio reception, how do i fix?


If it's interference from the high tension wires,you probably need new spark plug wires with good resistor type plugs.
Now,also a bad antenna or a poor match of frequency to the antenna from the rec eiver can cause weak reception.Anyone who knows electronics can match the antenna to the receiver. don-ohio

Replace antenna


Remove old Antenna
  1. Activate the antenna switch to the up position.
  2. Using the wrench or needle-nose pliers, loosen and remove the original retaining nut on the base of the antenna mast.
  3. Gain access to the underside of the area of the trunk where the antenna is located.
  4. Remove the bracket or brace that is below the hole and holding the antenna in place.
  5. Remove the mast.
  6. Find the motor that controls the antenna mast. Generally, power antennas will have a constant 12-volt lead and a ground lead. The ground lead will be grounded to the panel next to the motor.
  7. Remove the ground lead from the panel.
  8. Pull out the antenna coaxial cable.
  9. Unplug the coaxial from the extension coaxial cable.
  10. Remove the original antenna coaxial cable. Note the route the cable follows.

Install new Antenna
  1. Inspect the fender area where the antenna mast will be mounted for rust.
  2. Clean the area before installing the new antenna.
  3. Plug the new antenna coaxial cable to the extension coaxial cable.
  4. Plug the new antenna's coaxial cable into the radio's chassis antenna jack if there is no extension coaxial cable. Tie or tape the string you put on the extension cable to the new antenna coaxial cable. This assures that the 2 cables stay together as you route them to the antenna mount in the fender.
  5. Connect the power lead of the antenna to the power antenna lead on the radio.
  6. Connect the 12-volt constant lead to the antenna to a 12-volt source or to the ignition switch.
  7. Direct the new antenna cable via the same route followed by the original antenna cable on up to the hole in the fender in which the mast will be mounted.
  8. Ground the ground lead from the motor to a clean metal surface on the metal panel near the mount.
  9. Insert the mast into the hole. Face the serrated side of the plastic cable on the bottom of the mast toward the motor side. The plastic cable can be inserted freely to about 12 inches and will stop.
  10. Turn on antenna switch to down position until the plastic cable goes down and catches into the gear mechanism of the drum housing. If the plastic cable does not gear into the mechanism, twist the cable slightly until the cable contacts into the gear mechanism while the motor is in operation.
  11. Stop the motor after the cable goes into the housing 12 to 25 inches.
  12. Secure the bracket or strap to the bottom of the antenna mast and to the metal fender.
  13. Replace the retainer nut to the base of the antenna mast and secure tightly.
  14. Replace the panel that covers the antenna mount area.

    Give these instructions a shot. Might be too generic but might be enough to get you going. Removing Original Antenna

    Installing the New Power Antenna
  11. Step 1 Inspect the fender area where the antenna mast will be mounted for rust.

  13. Step 3 Plug the new antenna coaxial cable to the extension coaxial cable. (On some General Motors and Ford cars you may need an adapter to mate the 2 cables together. Car audio retail stores sell such an adapter.)
  14. Step 4 Plug the new antenna's coaxial cable into the radio's chassis antenna jack if there is no extension coaxial cable. Tie or tape the string you put on the extension cable to the new antenna coaxial cable. This assures that the 2 cables stay together as you route them to the antenna mount in the fender.
  15. Step 5 Connect the power lead of the antenna to the power antenna lead on the radio.
  16. Step 6 Connect the 12-volt constant lead to the antenna to a 12-volt source or to the ignition switch.
  17. Step 7 Direct the new antenna cable via the same route followed by the original antenna cable on up to the hole in the fender in which the mast will be mounted.

  22. Step 12 Secure the bracket or strap to the bottom of the antenna mast and to the metal fender.
  23. Step 13 Replace the retainer nut to the base of the antenna mast and secure tightly.
  24. Step 14 Replace the panel that covers the antenna mount area.
