The computer looks at a pressure switch that will close when there is enough pressure to turn the compressor on, that pressure switch could be bad or the relay that the computer uses to turn on the compressor could be bad.

I changed the ac compressor and dryer pumped it down and charged the system the compressor comes on for 3 seconds and cuts off. The clutch does not stay in gage. What could be the problem now?

Sounds like it's shutting off due to high pressures in the system. Do you have gauges to read the system pressures? One thing that would cause this is too much freon in the system, or too much oil. Did the compressor come with oil in it or did you add oil to the system? Too much oil and/or freon will give high pressures and the high pressure switch will shut the system off. Or the high pressure switch could be damaged, maybe even unplugged is a possibility. If it is plugged in you could try unplugging it and seeing if the compressor keeps running for longer than 3 seconds, if it does pressures might be too high. It could also be a bad relay getting hot and kicking off. Try switching relays and see what happens. Another possibility is the low pressure switch but not too likely in this case.

When the compressor shuts off, can you turn it by hand? If not, high pressures or even a bad compressor are possible.

Lot's of possibilities. Just have to wade through them. I'd start with the relay and then check the pressures.

Good luck.

Is there any easy and cheap way to find out if the compressor is bad; it won't blow cold nor will it let us add any r14

I'm assuming you mean R134 if it is a 2000 model car.
Not sure what you are saying the problem is. The compressor has to run to add freon if it is low. Normally you jumper the low pressure switch to make it run while you add freon.
Is the compressor running ? And if so, what are the high and low gauge readings ?

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse my ac pressure low side is 10psi but compressor is still running. I thought below 20psi the pump shuts off. Am I wrong??

WILL FIRST YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT YOUR HIGH SIDE PRESSURE READINGS ARE ,COMPRESSOR MAY STILL CYCLE BUT FAST OFF AND ON DUE TO LOW FREON LEVEL,BUT IT STAYS RUNNING ALL THE TIME MAY HAVE FAULTY COMPRESSOR ,READ VALVES IN COMPRESSOR BAD ,BUT REC CKING HIGH PRESSURE FIRST,HOPE IT HELPS

2000 dodge durango, a/c compressor stopped working after freon was added, did I do something wrong?

at a rough guess you add excessive amounts of freon and that caused the compressor to seize up
gas is added using pressure gauges and not by the can
besides that did you use the correct gas as the r134a runs at a much higher pressure and will deliver liquid back to the compressor which is not good for the operation

Where is the low side on the ac pump located?

There are two ports on the ac lines covered with black caps. One is larger than the other to help prevent you from connecting to the wrong port. One is low pressure and the other is high when the compressor is running.

Where do you put the freon

freon is added to the low pressure side. The adaptor will only fit this connection, the high pressure connection is a larger connector. You shouldn't just add freon without checking the high pressure side - you can still overpressurize the system, and this will cause your compressor to kick-off on high pressure.

Air conditioner does not cool in 2000 Yukon. How do I check freon level and how to replace freon if need be

Get an r134a refrigerant add kit from Walmart or your local auto parts store.

You can even get a can of Arctic Freeze by Intermatics that has a hose and a gauge on it.

Connect the hose to the low side port. You can find this port on the 'thicker' piping that comes off of the compressor (versus the thinner piping that comes off the compressor which is the high pressure side).

Pressure should read 25 psi to 45 psi on the low pressure side when the compressor is running and the a/c is on.

Pressure should read 75 psi to 100 psi on a hot day when the car is off.

However, you'll want the a/c to be running when you add freon.

Press the button on the can to install more freon, if needed.

My air condition is not working

first check your fuses and any relays sometimes you have multible relays that are the same in a fuse box that you can switch around but i would bet you have a leak either in your compressor or in your line if the clutch is not kicking on and off or running all the time when you turn it on thats because your freon has leaked out the system is sealed freon does not go bad if there is no pressure in the system it will just blow warm air your question is vague so if your blower is not blowing bad blower motor or a fuse if warm not getting cold your system has a leak if you have not broke the system you can try stop leak 2 cans to seal a leaky compressor compressor could be bad if it wont spin noisy clutch could be bad need new compressor but if a leak after stop leak add the right amount or r-134a 2 to 3 cans if the compressor kicks on on the first can of stop leak or freon your system did leak down and you hope the stop leak fixes it but first check all your lines are tight and that the freon is not leaking from the high or low pressure ports the valve can leak sometimes make sure your caps are on take some spit after you add freon back into your system see if your spit blows a bubble if it does replace or tighten the valve. a few things to check start with power fuses then add a can of freon if you have power now clutch engagement if you add and kicks on there is the reason a leaky system it will all leak back out in a day or several days... thats why you can add the stop leak things you can try or take it to the shop and pay someone some $$$$$

Is engine temperature badly affect AC compressor prformance ?provided that i bought a new compressor since 9 months but now stop function despite adequate fereon

It should not affect the A/C compressor. The A/C coils are actually in front of the radiator so the A/C should cool regardless.

Here's what you want the system to do. You want the Freon to maintain a steady pressure when the A/C is on. There are 2 pressure cutoff switches. 1high, 1low pressure. The compressor will cutout when either switch is tripped. This means a moderate amount of Freon is supposed to be in the system to avoid tripping the switches.

At this point your dryer tank will frost or sweat, the lines from the tank will frost too. The Freon can remove the most heat in this condition.

You can loan tools from Autozone or Oreillys with a deposit. You need to measure the pressure in the system and have the car windows rolled down and air on high to make it perform. Also use the correct "oil charge", the compressor will fail without oil.

Your compressor will not start if the pressure is below the Low pressure minimum. You may want to change the LOW pressure switch. If the compressor does not start, check the fuse or add Freon. The compressor will not run if there is too much pressure. Measure and remove Freon to cancel the high pressure switch.

When you have your pressure right everything should work providing the system was properly prepped before the Freon was added. Final note, the manifold gauges show TEMPERATURE variables for installing Freon. In simple terms, Freon is a gas that expands and if you add it in Cold weather it will expand and have higher pressure and be overfilled in Hot weather.
