You can get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. There are many things it can be, but the diagnostic system in your vehicle will identify the part or group that is malfunctioning.

One thing you can check is the intake manifold directly under the Airhorn. Usually this will show a "insufficent EGR flow" and Code 401. There is a groove beneath the gasket that needs cleaning. Its 8 bolts and a $10 gasket to fix. The diagnostic computer misses the real problem and blames parts for not opening instead of being plugged. It can be other things too, so have the scan anyway.

Please be awear I took my 97 Explorer to Autozone with a check engine light on they told me it was the mass air flow sensor so I spent $100 bucks on it 2 days later the light came back on, thinking I had another problem I went back to Autozone they told me it was the M.A.F. again when I confronted them they then admitted there are 6 sensors with that code. I took it to a dealer and paid for a diagnostic only to find it was a leaking intake manifold gasket all along.

Thank You for passing the Resolution along. I called a Zone office for Autozone about your misdiagnosis. Call this number, 586-463-4833. The person at this location needs to know the store you went to. The Autozone stores have Regional Customer centers and you need to deal with the Regional center that oversees your local store. The 586 number is MY Regional center and it is for Detroit; the person at this Regional center will give you the correct number for your area.

I spoke with the Representative about your purchase of a part you did not need and a Dealer receipt for the corrective diagnosis. It seems the Regional centers will listen and you have a chance for getting something back. I personally have seen a local store price match a part that was 50% cheaper somewhere else. Please pursue this and let me know the outcome.

Where is the egr valve on a 99 Ford expedition

The EGR valve is in a very difficult spot to work on. If the EGR is bad it will set off the check engine light and make the vehicle run rough or stall at idle. It really doesn't make it run rough while driving or accelerating. What are the conditions when the car runs rough?

I have 2000 ford expedition and last few weeks its been making a whistling noise when accelerate, then past few days it's been running rough, idel low and shakes a bit then today check engine ligh

You might check the pulleys that the serpentine belt runs on. Make sure all are free wheeling and not loose or rough or make noise. You would need to remove the belt to check them.

97 Ford expedition blinking check engine light, running rough.

A flashing CEL means that you might be causing damage to your CATs. It will flash when the PCM senses a misfire bad enough to cause fuel to dump into the exhaust. When that happens lay off the throttle. Chances are you've got a bad injector or bad plug.

Use a code reader to know the real reason that check engine light come on.

Expedition running rough on acceleration, it's a 5.4L.

running rough means it is misfiring.does it run smoothly without load or at idle?If it does then better check you fuel pressure as the engine needs more fuel under load.

Ignition Distributor location

There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

Have a 1997 ford thunderbird v8...started running very rouhg and check engine light blinking. Changed plugs and wires but noticed small coolant leak above engine. Ran fine for 10 days then started running...

Light should have stored code. Go to local autoparts chain & get free scan for codes and go from there. Saves all that guess work & money a lot of times. Write down code(s) and let us know.

1998 ford expedition

The only way to find out is to take it to a mechanic who has an engine analyzer and the rubbing could be caused by a loose mudshield (or a dozen other things).
