Question about 2006 GMC Envoy Xl

I have a 2006 gmc envoy xl that sounds real loud like a jet when you start it up and when excelerating it gets louder and louder. Could it be the fan clutch or the relay any answers anyone

Normally this is just a problem with the fan clutch. These have been a big problem for gm. The good news is that the new one from gm is redesigned and you should also have your local gm dealer check your vehicle as there is an updated calibration for the engine control computer to help fix this problem. As far as diagnosing this problem, I would first recommend first having this vehicle scanned with a scan tool to determine if there are any DTC codes in the ecm's history related to the fan clutch. This can give you important info on the exact failure on your vehicle. This requires a scan tool. If you do not have one, I would recommend checking with your local auto part stores to see if they do FREE engine diagnostic scans. if you can get this done, I can assure you of the exact problem on your vehicle. Unplug cooling fan clutch ( motor off ), start motor, check for jet noise. If noise goes away, it's the fan clutch. Fix is to take to GMC or Chevy dealer to have updated code programmed into PCM.
You can also check to see if it's the relay that has gone bad, the relay is not a normal relay and your going to have to pick one up at the dealer. You can swap out the relay for your head lights with the fan clutch, there the same type of relay's and see if the jet noise goes away.

Fan clutch failure is common on these........and very costly to replace. With the engine cold, engine off, reach in and turn the fan, it should turn with minimal resistance, if it has heavy drag, or wont turn at all, it needs replaced.

2003 envoy sounds like a jet i just replaced fan clutch and still sounds loud


IT MAY BE THAT THE CLUTCH IS LOCKED UP BY DEFAULT, SO THE ELECTRONICS TO THE FAN CLUTCH ARE MOST LIKELY THE PROBLEM.

Engine whinning


I had the same problem on my 2005 Envoy. Turned out to be the idler pulley bearing. It is just a pulley the belt rides on. The bearing in the pulley was what was making the high pitched whine. I replaced the bearing, and the noise went away.

Loud air intake engine noise on startup


I would guess it is the electronic fan clutch. It will cause the fan to run too fast (very loud) and the light will come on sometimes.

Engine revs realy loud


You have a faulty thermostatically controlled fan clutch. Same thing happened to mine. As soon as you start the car, the fan is always turning, and the speed increases as the RPM is increased.

If there is an engine code po410 you have problems with your airpump. There are bulletins out on this situation.
