Question about 2004 Ford Freestar

1 Answer

My 2004 Freestar rear door is stuck in the closed and locked position. I must free the lock mechanism to unlock it and open the door. The the screws holding the lock solenoid assembly i place are accessible. Is there a way to unlock it? I have removed the inside rear door cover and can see the lock solenoid assembly.

There is a rod that connects the solenoid to the lock assy. from inside the van you can move it with your hand or pliers and then open the hatch. you will need to clean up the lock because ther will be corrosion and then use a white grease to lube the whole thing. operate by hand a few times before you close it up. there is an access port by the lock inside the door so you dont need to take the whole panel off.

the rod described above has an eye hole at the top and needs to be moved all the way to the right to unlock and engage the rear latch.

this was very helpful, saved me a trip to the repair shop and no doubt saved me $$ .. the eye hole description was right on the mark.

Driver rear door stuck closed on 2002 Santa Fe Hyundai. Any ideas on how to fix it?

It's usually the lock that is stuck in lock position.Roll down the window, grab a rubber hammer and as you reach inside and unlock the door,HIT THE DOOR at the locking area with the rubber hammer. Now try to open the door.It may take a few tries but works to open doors 90% of the time.DO NOT lock this door until you have lubed the internal locking mechanical parts and are sure they work.

Cannot open rear drivers side door from outside or inside. door panel is off, door is closed. child lock is on. tried pulling cable, wont move. tried lifting up the child lock with a thin blade

Sounds like the lock mechanism is stuck on the locked position. Since you didn't specify make and model this is a best guess. Make sure the lock is in the unlock position and try manipulating the rod connected to the outside handle (since child lock is on the inside handle won't work)

Electric latch on the rear Hatch door will not unlock

I guess ford was trying to make a couple more bucks by not putting key locks on all doors. Anyway, if you crawl inside and pop the small cover(about 2"x2") off the inside of the hatch where the latch is located you can reach in with a screwdriver and manually move control arms. The lever on the back/far side of assembly is in the locked position, you need to move to the opposite side left or right of it's current position, this will unlock the latch and should allow you to open the door. You mave have to pop acutor arm loose to move it. My problem ended up being the outside cover {license plate frame)seal had been damaged by a ford mechanic, that or it was defective. Water got in and damaged the the lock acuator. Had to replace entire assembly as ford does'nt offer just the acuator. Sealed the outside cover with clear silione.

My drivers side rear door will not open from the inside or outside

I had exact problem Santa Fe 2007 2008 lock was stuck in locked position and door would not open from inside or out. All other doors would unlock with auto key remote. Carefully work the inside lock towards the open position as you lock and unlock the door with the remote. As you press unlock try to assist the lock to open. I did this a few times and the lock became free to the open position and all worked perfectly after this.

2007 ford freestar lift gate will not open even though I can hear the lock disengaging. Still feels locked. It is manual open, but cannot lift it, feels locked.

Try pressing the door closed while unlocking and releasing. If the door previously has been slammed shut hard or just due to general wear and tear the latching mechanism can become slightly relocated. This means that when the door closes the door is pressing tighter than normal against the door seal. The compressed door seal will put a lot of strain on the latch mechanism and can hinder its retraction when released. By pressing the door closed and therefore removing the strain due to the door seal you might allow the release mechanism enough freedom of movement to retract when released. If having got the door open then immediately adjust/relocate and lubricate the lock/release mechanism such that you achieve a happy medium of the door closing with a weatherproof seal but not so tightly as to put the latch under a lot of strain.

Back (tailgate) door will not unlock and open

I bought a used 04 and when I took delivery I couldn't open the tailgate.

The non-Ford dealer was clueless when it came to helping me so I looked at it myself.

There is a small plastic access cover right above the mechanism on the inside of the hatch. It is about 1.5" by 1.5" square. Pop it off and drown the lock with WD40 to see if you can free it iu.

I finally got mine to open and then removed the inner panel to partially reveal the mechanism. It looked like it was brought up from the Titanic. It was completely rusted.

Seems that this model has a problem with water getting into the lock as it pools in the area where the catch is.

$167.00 later, tax in, and the problem is fixed as long as you continue to spary the h_ _ _ out of it with WD40
