Is fixing the alternator belt on a renault scenic an easy job?

The alternator belt just came off my renault scenic (the power steering pulley came off!). Not sure what else is linked to the belt. Is is a DIY job or could I foul up the timing etc?

No timing involved with the belt. Something caused it to come off if didn't break one of the pulleys it runs on can be locked up or worn so that it wobbles. Water pump pulley is most common cause of trouble.

I wouldn't recommend this! The problem is on renault's most likely you have a K4M engine that when the accessories belt comes off (alternator belt) there has to be a reason I very much doubt it's to do with high mileage and not being replaced most of the cases it's to do with other parts becoming faulty, take it to a professional have him check the alternator pully a common fault also the crankshaft pully and the tensioners, a big problem with Renault's is when the belt comes off bits of belt may go into the camshaft belt causing the engine to lose its timing and in some cases causing damage to the valves of the engine.

Just like to add that the water pump runs on the timing belt of this car and not on the alternator belt.

    Enjoy!

How to replace the power steering belt on a 4g13

ADJUSTMENT

Excessive belt tension will cause damage to the alternator and water pump pulley bearings, while, on the other hand, loose belt tension will produce slip and premature wear on the belt. Therefore, be sure to adjust the belt tension to the proper level.
To adjust the tension on a drive belt, loosen the adjusting bolt or fixing bolt locknut on the alternator, alternator bracket or tension pulley. Then move the alternator or turn the adjusting bolt to adjust belt tension. Once the desired value is reached, secure the bolt or locknut and recheck tension.

I need a diagram to see were my tension-er is

I don't have the figure for your car, but the below figure shows how to remove the A/C belt.
the other belts should have a simple slot in the bracket for adjusting. If you have more questions, let us know.

  4. Remove the A/C compressor belt.
  5. Loosen the locknut on the face of the power steering/alternator tensioner pulley.
  6. Turn the adjusting bolt of the tensioner pulley to loosen the tension of the belt.
  7. Remove the power steering/alternator belt.

Hi

Sounds very much like a loose, or split pulley drive belt.

Open the bonnet and check, I am pretty sure this is where the problem lies.

You just need a new belt !

Good Luck !
