Question about 2002 Dodge Caravan
This transmission shift to 2nd gear if it detects a problem with the transmission. It may be major, but often it is only a sensor. Try turing the ignition switch on and off three times in a row, and then start it. This will reset the computer for the trans and you can see if it will shift again.
Take it to Auto zone or Advance and have them scan it. If you see a code for the input speed sensor or output speed sensor, they are both external and often have to be replaced. It will not hurt it to drive for a little ways, it was designed to be driven to repair. It is called limp mode.
Hope this helps.
