Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Oil light comes on

The Oil light came on while driving; I stopped immediatly and check ed the oil level. This was within the correct limits. I'm able to start the car and drive a bit; although the engine does not sound as before. It makes a clackety sort of sound.

Any ideas on what the problem could will be appreciated. Oh yes, its a Jeep Cherokee 3.7 Limited 2002 model (I think its called a Liberty elsewhere outside South Africa)

Thanks & Regards

Hi Reson2; thanks for your input. I had a look under the car; there are no
leaks, no dents, no nothing. Everything looks normal. I was thinking of draining and replacing all the oil as well as replacing the oil filter.

What do you think? Or should I rather just get a professional to look it and not go through all this trouble.

The light u have on is not the oil level light it is the oil pressure light, u have a problem with the oil pump inside the engine, u have lost oil pressure!, DO NOT DRIVE THIS ANY FURTHER you will damage the engines bearings, the nosie u are hearing is the hydraulic valve lifters, this means u have no oil pressure, get to a qualified repair facility ASAP, please take my word for this.

It sounds as if you have an actual mechanical malfunction in your engine high pressure oil system, if the light had come on and there was no noise I would suspect a sender, but you have noise, please do not drive this car, you could destroy the engine, Get a qualified mechanic to check it by putting a mechanical gauge on the engine to test actual oil pressure, If it is low, it could be many things, from a stuck relief valve, an oil journal plug that has come out, to a dented oil pan and broken or plugged oil pickup screen and tube, It takes someone who knows these engines to look at it physically, but a look underneath is the first step, is the pan dented? do you see a leak? Has the oil filter come off?
Hope this helps

Oil light will only come on when the sensor does not detect oil flow. You may have a circulation issue not allowing oil to return to oil pan quick enough to keep up on motorway. Have valve covers removed and check for build up at oil return ports in top of head(s)

Oil warning light flashing mean?

Normally, if you get a oil warning light signal (flashing) could be a few things related to it. Number one, you are low on oil. Check your oil level and make sure it is at full level. Number two, is possibly oil filter is dirty, ( time for service, oil change) or problem with oil pump or oil pump pressure. BUT I would first start with checking oil level and then maybe a oil change.

Oil light comes on between services on bmw 318 ti es

Oil light should not come on unless the Level is LOW or the Oil Pressure has dropped below safe operating limits. I would do 3 things
1. Check Oil Level, if low, fill to the correct level and then restart.
a. if the light does not go out....
2. Pull the Oil Pressure Sending unit out and install a pressure gauge
a. if the pressure is in normal operating limits, chances are the Oil Pressure sending unit is bad
b. If the pressure is low, the issue is
1. Oil Pump
2. Engine Main or Rod bearings are bad and a engine rebuild is on its way

Oil presure light comes on after driving 15 min. only when i stop. this just started after i gave it a rutine oil change. when ii turn the heater on it stops coming on .

After making sure that you used the propper oil filter and the correct grade of oil. inspect the Oil presure switch. if you see it wet with oil, replace it. given that you hear no internal engine noises, while you come to a stop and the light comes on. Then more that likely you have the wrong filter. please doubble check your oil level, 2.. Hope this helps

2002 Lancer OZ Rally...

I had the same problem with my 2003 Lancer OZ. The oil level and pressure were ok. Car was fine with no light when starting. After 10 to 15 mins of driving it would come on when I was stopped. It would go away when I pressed accelerator. Try replacing the Oil Sending Unit. It's about $10 and easy to swap. That was my problem.
