Question about 1996 Volkswagen Golf
If its factory fitted then the only way to get rid of it would be to fit a stand alone engine ecu ( omex or emerald ) as it is inbuilt if it is aftermarket then you can remove the unit and reconect the wires that it has be fitted between , normally ignition feed, starter, and fuel pump
