There is a pressure switch for the idiot light,....located somewhere on the engine block,....usually close to the oil filter....There are special socket wrenches available at Auto parts to fit it....replace switch....should cure your problem. Joe LittleBear...

Maybe the oil level sensor went bad. be sure to check the level of the oil with the engine turned off and having it rest a bit. you are not suppose to exceed neither to have it low than the range showed in the dipstick.

have it checked.

Check with the help of a wiring diagram what a common circuit is and trace that circuit for a break or short. Your car is probably in limp home mode.

How do I get the maintainance required light off

Turn the key off, hold down the odo button on the dash, turn the key on and keep holding the odo button for about 7 seconds. The display screen on the dash will start to flash, release the button and press it down again and keep holding it until the display stops blinking. All done.

My oil light in my 1996 honda accord keeps blinking and I put in 5quarts of oil today

Have this checked before you drive the car to long distance. The oil light on this car comes on when the pressure falls below about 9 psi. Have the oil pressure inspected with an oil pressure gauge. If you are lucky it's just a failing oil pressure switch, but it could be a clogged oil pick up screen or even an oil pump failure.

The first thing that can be done is try resetting the car by removing the battery and reconnecting it thus performing a hard reset..

Have a 2005 honda accord and the maintance required light keeps blinking on and and off when i start the car up but it takes longer to stop blinking than the rest of the lights what could be wrong??

It's time for an oil change, then you reset the light.

With car off, press in your trip meter button on the gauges - while still holding it in, turn the key 2 clicks forward to power everything up but not to start it. Keep holding the button in until the light goes off. It will come on about 2 times per year reminding you to change your oil.

It might be a loose connection at the oil pressure switch or may be the switch is faulty.
