Hi!!

When motor is cool, loose the radiator drain valve located on the bottom of the radiator driver's side (depending on vehicle, it could be in the passenger side) Use a pair of needle nose pliers to loosen it up, drain coolant, tighten drain valve making sure not to overdue it, fill system back up w fresh coolant and check for leaks in valve, Most of the time there is no need to raise vehicle.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck.

There should be a drain on one of the tanks of the radiator. Most don't work right so it's usually easier to just remove the lower hose. Don't do it hot though as it comes out really fast.
Then, after it's drained, close it up, start the engine, turn the heater on high heat and fill. Leave it running till it reaches operating temp and the thermostat opens...coolant level will drop. At that point, top it off, fill the recovery bottle to the full mark and you're done!
If you happen not to be working on level ground, make sure the engine is pointing uphill so no air gets trapped.

Low coolant light stays on

Are you using Dexcool, or have you replaced the coolant with standard Green antifreeze? If you replaced the Dexcool with standard green antifreeze, the low coolant indicator may give false readings. An extremely dirty reservoir bottle can cause the same problem.

What type of coolant to use for a 2002 Mercury Sable.

It should say on the overflow bottle to use Dexcool only if it is Dexcool and if it does not say anywhere then it should be just the plain old green antifreeze. If it is Dexcool use only Dexcool do not mix any oyher type with it and remember to never open the radiator cap on a hot engine let it cool down first.

Dexcool does not cause leaks, but it should not be mixed with other antifreeze. Is it possible that the oil in the antifreeze is transmission fluid from a worn out radiator? The radiator cools the engine and the trans, and internally , the radiator may have ruptured?

What kind of antifreeze do i use in my 2000 montecarl

Good Evening, originally your vehicle came with dexcool antifreeze. However if you are not the original owner and they did work to it you may just want to check the color of the antifreeze to know which one to get. If it is green it is your standard antifreeze, if it is clear change it immediately because it is water and you really do not want it to freeze, if it is a orangish color it is dexcool. And if it is brown someone mixed dexcool and the standard antifreeze and I would recommend a flush and refill. There are varying thoughts on dexcool and a lawsuit going in california against it so you might look into that and make your own decision from there. Hope this helps.

I had put dexcool anti freeze in my 2003 altima nissan now it's smoking a thick white smoke from my exhaust

Dexcool antifreeze cannot be mixed with any other antifreeze except the new all makes all models antifreeze. If you mixed it with green or any other antifreeze it becomes toxic & will eat away from the inside out. Try flushing it all out, but it sounds like you blew a head gasket & may have hurt other cooling system components.

Bought a used 1996 s 10 4 cyl. what kind of

Use the cheapest stuff you can find that has ethylene glycol in it.
Walmart sells both Dex-Cool (more expensive) and 'Mixes with any color' coolant of various brands. Just get the kind that mixes with any color and you'll be fine for up to 5 years, according to the label.

A used truck can accomodate the coolant that is inexpensive and have no problems.

Good luck on this one.

Low Coolant Light

Why is it low? Leaking? The dumbest thing they sell is a 50/50 mix of antifreeze. You are getting 50% water and 50% coolant. Just buy a 100% antifreeze jug add it first and top it off with water. If the water is not low you may hve a bad coolant level sensor. It snaps into the radiator tank and is easy to replace when cold.
