Question about 2006 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Chevy Impala 3.5L. Lopes while driving.

I have a 2006 Chevy Impala 3.5L. While driving it tends to lope, but doesn't do it at idle. The rpms will go up and down when accelerating up to around 200 rpms up and down. Not sure what's causing this, just started to do it in the past month. You can't replace the fuel filter due to the fact it is in the tank, and not able to service it. It does it the whole time driving only while accelerating, I did how ever receive this trouble code twice P0011 in the past month, does this have anything to do with it?. Any advice? thanks.

Would replacing the Cam position sensor fix this issue or is it way more involved?

A code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.
A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:

  • Incorrect camshaft timing
  • Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
  • Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
  • Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)
This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.
Thank you for using fixya

There are 4 things as mentioned to inspect,

    • Incorrect camshaft timing

    • Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system

    • Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber

    • Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

and a Tech2 scanner can identify which 4 needs to be addressed. you can try replacing parts, but that can start to get costly over a simple wire lead that is loose that may just need to be secured.

2005 chevy impala holding high idle

A temp sensor out of range giving a false cold reading can cause high idle . A MAP sensor can also cause high idle by advancing the timing resulting in higher idle .

No power full throttle u only rev to 2 grand that it can u help me

The cars computer has a rev limiter built in so a no load rev is about 2 grand. but driving the car it should reach 4800 rpms or 5600 rpms if not then install a vacuum gauge on a intake manifold port normal readings should be 16 inches or more at idle then drive car as you accelerate to a higher speed this should drop slightly once at full throttle is will read almost zero if below that then the exhaust has a restriction.

Have a 2001 chevy impala runs great on acceleration but rough on idle engine light is on gas milage is down replaced plugs and wires wondering if i have an issue with the oxygen sensor

your check engine light will give you information that will help solve the problem-get the computer scanned, go to a retail auto parts store, they all do it for nothing. Write down the actual codes, and come back here with the codes, you will get the help you need.

Engine idles rough at red lights begins loping rpms drop to almost killing, then cycles back to normal, then repeats rough idle drop in rpms and loping, back and forth until I rev engine or take off

You could have a clogged fuel filter, if you haven't changed it in awhile. You could have a leak in the intake system somwhere also. When you slow down, you get less power to the engine. It may need spark plugs and wires as well, if in need for a tune up.

What was it doing before? was the idle fluctuating before you cleaned the iac. If so then you probably need to replace the sensor. what did you use to clean the sensor? Some IAC's are sensitive and cannot be cleaned without damaging them.
