Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I got a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited with the 4.7 v8 which was bad so i got a 2004 4.7 and told was the same "N" code. got the new one in and used the flexplate that came with it, and only had 2 differences between the motors.. 1st is that by the throttle body, the new motor has one less place for a vacum line to go and the sensor in front of throttle body wont fit the wiring plug. with all that said, it starts right up but has a loud tapping sound and gets louder under load and seems to lack power. i did notice the back exhaust manifold bolt broke off and has a good exhaust leak. used a long screwdriver to find the tapping, but along valve covers it sounds relatively smooth but i hear more of a tap on the belhousing. so what could be causin this stuff? flexplate, exhaust manifold? it kinda quiets down on revs but loud when rpms fall.

Sometimes an exuast leak when a motor is cold sounds like a tapping noise or it could just be a simple rocker arm adj., either one needs to be fixed or it will a larger problem. Thanks

Remove front Rotors

To remove the front rotors, you first need to support the vehicle with a jack stand. Then remove the wheel.
Once the wheel is out of the way you need to take the two bolts off of the backside of the caliper, then compress the caliper and lift it off of the rotor.
Now you should be able to easily remove the rotor from the Jeep.

Error code P 0161 for 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited V8

Its related to the oxygen sensor and/or oxygen sensor heater. There are 4 sensors the Jeep is equipped with.

In most cases one of the recommended solution for all those faults is a sensor replacement, however before doing that and spending a lot of money. Go to auto zone and have them tell you what O2 sensor is bad buy it and replace it. Go back to them to have the code cleared. O2 sensors run 20-50bucks. Good Luck
