Question about 2003 GMC Sierra

2 Answers

2003 GMC Sierra is running rough. What can cause this problem? This problem just recently started and it occurs when I first accelerate from zero to lets say 25 or 30 mph. As I progressively increase speed the sluggish ride begins to smooth out. I tried a can of STP injector cleaner, but I don't think that this helped at all. Please help?

Find the egr valve and with the engine running, disconnect the vacuum line attached to it. If the engine runs better then the egr valve is stuck open. Replace the egr valve. It is held in by 2 bolts and usually located at the front of the intake manifold. Usually dull gold in color and shaped like a mushroom.

You never replace anything, on a Wishing,Hoping,Pushing,Poking, diagnostic approach

You learn the vehicles Systems,Test, then Replace,if you have a failed component.

Work on the Misfire Issues.
Then you lean O2 Codes will go away.

Not a the plugs.

Think lean---Vacuum leaks,EGR Valve leak,EVAP System leaks, anything with a hose that lets air into the intake system.

My 2003 GMC Sierra idles rough and cut off sometimes when turning.Replaced fuel filter and changed plugs.engine light stays on.Which 02 sensors do i need to replace first? Before converter or after...

Before replacing the O2 sensors, I would check the fuel pressure. You may also try to have someone pull a trouble code from the powertrain control module to verify why the engine light is on. Do not replace any parts until this is done, otherwise your going to be guessing at the root cause, and it will get expensive with part replacement.

Recently I had my 2000 gmc 2500 6.0 liter truck start running rough. I changed the spark plugs, checked the coil packs and replaced the fuel pumpand fuel filter. Still no change....Any suggestions?

ROUGH IDLING CAN BE CAUSE BY MANY THINGS.I AM LOOKING AT LEAKING VACUUM HOSES OR INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK.DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS AND WORN ENGINE VALVES WILL CAUSE ROUGH IDLING.ALSO LOW IDLE SPEED CAUSE ENGINE TO RUN ROUGH.

Excessive black exhaust on 2003 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel.

This is what i would try (cheapest first) redexe/wyyns
injector cleaner, double dose, then i have put 1gal gas in 10gal diesel to increase burn temp (you may encounter a hot start problem temporarilly)then if still smoking, get a compresion check on the engine(this will tell you volumes)
by the way the NATO tanks put in 1/3 gas in diesel to stop it freezing in arctic conditions.any more than 1/3 can result in problems.

My 2003 GMC Sierra starts for one second then turns off...won't stay running..why? could it be my alarm (paython) doing that?

Hi !
If the car is running with some light acceleration then there is no trouble with the alarm system...
Use some good additive (meant for cleaning jets and injectors) with your fuel as this would clean the internal fuel supply line...
Also clean the air filter as I see that the car is getting choked.

resistance in plug wires ... degrades them. I find this as a standard GMC Sierra problem. Two sets on mine already. Coding is for misfires. Also, possible to unplug your MAS [mass air sensor] which will keep the 'check engine' light on at all times but it will no longer be in the circuit and could also be another solution to the problem. Changing out O2 sensors is just expensive since there are Banks A and B and each bank has 2 sensors. The cost from a part store is 80$+... hate to know what they charge you at a garage.

Go with the new wire set first.
