SOURCE: bad brake booster

If you know for sure that the booster has failed, you need to unbolt the master cylinder from it, (sometimes you can move it away enough to not even disconnect lines.) Then unbolt the booster from the firewall, disconnect the pedal linkage if connected to booster. Remove & replace booster assembly and everything else you you took off. If you didn't have to remove master cyl you are done. If removed, bleed master before putting back into service!

Have to replace my master cylinder and just not sure how to sepparate the linkage from the brake peddle

When replacing a brake system master cylinder you do not need to mess with the peddle that I know of. There should be two bolts on the master cyl. to unbolt it from the booster. You do not give Model or year, but the internal rod linkage will stay put as you remove the master cyl. It is best to get out as much fluid as you can, (old turkey baster). As brake fluid will ruin auto paint quickly. Remove any wires and brake lines, unbolt it from the booster and shes out. Hope this helps Fix Ya up.

How do i change a brake booster

from autozone.com:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Apply the parking brake.
  3. Unplug all necessary electrical connections.
  4. Remove the master cylinder from the booster and pull it off the studs, CAREFULLY! It is not necessary to disconnect the brake lines.
  5. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the check valve.
  6. If necessary, remove the brake light switch.
  7. Disconnect the booster pushrod at the brake pedal.
  8. Remove the booster mounting nuts, located on the inside of the firewall.

Replacing power brake booster

You don't need to remove the pedal to get the booster off,it just slides inside,so when the booster is unhooked it will just pull out.
