1986 dodge daytona smokes a lot

Hi Michael, I'm glad to help! When a vehicle starts to smoke, and I'm assuming you talking from the tailpipe. Its alway because there are worn parts, these parts could be anything from: Valve seals, Rings, PCV could be stop up, also on older model like yours, provided it has an auto-trans could be the modulator. This is a round cylinder looking object with a vacuum hose running to it which is attached to the side of the transmission. When it goes bad it will allow trans fluid to slip through it and it runs into the Intake Manifold and smokes out the tailpipe. As you see there are a lot of things that can cause an engine to smoke. You can check the rings by doing a "Cylinder Leak Down Test". The modulator, check it by simply unhooking the vacuum hose and if fluid runs out of the hose then replace the vacuum modulator NOTE: Provided it has a modulator. If both of these are OK, I suggest replacing the valve seals. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Michael.

5.9 2005 Dodge cummins diesel - smokes - cold or warm. Any suggestions on where to begin??

What color smoke? Blue means you are burning oil, possibly worn rings or valve seals. Gray is excessive fuel from worn injectors. White is antifreeze usually means headgasket.

Had to change crankshaft sensor and coil pack now its misfiring and smokes from the engine compartment any suggestions?

My first guess on the miss-fire is the plug wires got crossed up.
As for the smoking, can you tell where the smoke is coming from ?

My car starts in a morning but it smokes like its choked up any suggestions

When was last "healthy" tune up? Plugs, Wires, all fluids and filters (especially fuel filter) I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

It smokes then clears up then smokes again could it be a sensor??

Check for worn valve guides & seals. Make sure PCV is functioning as well, but it sounds like guides worn.

1991 mercedes e300 starts then smokes then shuts off

Sounds like too much restriction in the system if nothing else has changed but I would suggest a tune up with a minimum cap, rotor, coil and plugs. Also the OVP relay on the passenger side firewall is a known starting issue.

Engine smokes on one side

if it smokes all the time its running then its a piston oil ring or piston on that side if only smokes when you start it then suspect a bad valve seal and or guide on that side.
