Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am
If it's a newer Pontiac (1999-2010), then it's 5w30. Anything older than that usually takes 10w30. In any case, you can use either one. I would go with the 5w30 because it services both your top and bottom end of your engine and is better for it in the long run. I would also recommend using a full synthetic or a blend as well to keep down the deposits and keep power in the engine.
