Question about 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix

2 Answers

I just received a '92 pontiac grand prix 3.1FI. but it's been sitting in the previous owners yard for up to 4 years. I know it's going to take a lot of work, but I don't really know where to start. I just bought a new battery, which is hooked up now and new spark plugs which I haven't installed yet, I just found out there's no spark. So any idea's what I should/could do next to get it to start?

The first thing to do is, if there was any old gas in the tank, get rid of it, it's no good, you have to drop the gas tank and pour it out, but before you do that, make sure you hear a buzzing sound from the tank, that's the fuel pump, if you hear that then the pump is working.
When the tank is out, check the hoses and make sure there is no cracking in them or being brittle, if there is replace them.
Next, change the oil and filter
The no spark is probably do to a bad coil, change that, put the plugs in.
Change the fuel filter
When you get ready to start it, turn ignition switch on, but don't crank it, turn it back off, then on, do this a few times so the fuel pump can force the gas through the line and pressurize the system. If it still doesn't start! Then further testing needs to be done. Hope this helped a little. Good luck.

yes very much possible the ignition switch is getting Short so its causing the issue.Check the voltage at ignition switch. The power wire to the ignition switch harness are connected to battery and will give 12 volts. If there is no voltage then its loose connection. If there is short the voltage will differ. ---------thanks.Helpmech.

I need a master window switch for a four door Grand Prix SE driver side but can't find one. What year switch can I use

Have you tried a salvage yard? I was a customer service rep. at a very good salvage yard. If they don't have one they should be able to tell you what years will fit. You could try your local yard, and hopefully find one. Ask about a warranty. It may only be 60 or 90 days, but its better than nothing.

    Tire pressure sensor light reset

I should say in the owners manual. My brother in law was telling me that you have to put more air in all the tires. Then with the key on you slowly start letting the air out of one of the tires until you hear the horn chirp. Then go to the next until you've done all 4 and the light should go out. On some models you have to do something with the radio. No owners manual you can usually get one from a salvage yard at a fraction of the cost of new. Go to www.car-part.com for salvage yard in your area.
