Question about Dodge Ram 2500

1 Answer

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel - I accidentally pumped in about 7 gallons of unleaded gas into my relatively empty diesel fuel tank. The solution I got (from FixYa ":o) is to add 6-8 ounces of motor oil to the fuel tank and top it off with #2 diesel. Is this all it takes?

No, this is not the correct way!. Gasoline does not combust under pressure like diesel fuel, and obviously needs spark to burn. I can only recommend that you purchase a siphon pump that you operate manually to pull the gasoline from the tank into a container. Don't force the gasoline into the fuel system, drain the tank. 7 gallons should be easy to extract. Also check to see if they equipped this vehicle with a drain plug on the tank, I don't think they have, but it may be worth a check.

JUST DRAIN OUT GASOLINE IN FUEL TANK.CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND.FILL UP TANK WITH DIESEL FUEL. ENGINE WILL RUN ROUGH UNTIL ALL GASOLINE LEAVES THE FUEL LINES.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel?

It is located on the driver's side of the engine. You will see a yellow handle for the fuel/water separator drain valve at the bottom of the filter housing. The black plastic top unscrews and the filter can be pulled out.868820e.jpga75da07.jpg

Unleaded gas in a diesel fuel tank

do not worry about draining it, pour about 6 to 8 ounces of engine oil in it, and top it up with fresh fuel, it will be fine. The only way to drain the tank is to remove it and turn it over.

Just a suggestions but...

Check fuel filter.

Also add some fuel conditioner (e.g. HEAT for diesel) to get rid of any water that may be in your system.

I have accidentally refuelled a diesel Volvo V50 R design with unleaded any idea where the fuel sump is so I can drain Cheers

You have to drain the fuel tank and disconnect fuel lines and blow out with compressed air. The fuel pump is in the tank take it out and spray down with WD-40. If you run the car with unlead gas it will damage the motor.
