1991 Dodge Dakota fuel pump wireing. I removed pump and tested OK- Tried switching relays (all same in relay box) Still no cycling only a slight noise then silent. Ran 12-v (spiced) to left wire of 5.

engine cranking do you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? I don't know what testing you have done? I am trying to decide if more than one issue? Did you check voltage and ground at fuel pump connector, engine cranking? Initial prime is one thing but after that, if no rpm signal, no spark--no fuel injector pulse--no fuel pump. W/o rpm signal computer won't ground the asd relay. Any applicable trouble codes?
In my opinion, you can't bench test a fuel pump, I've seen faulty fuel pumps that would run up a storm on the bench but make no pressure when in the gas tank.

Fuel pump not working, will not prime, cranks but no start unless putting fuel in intake

Check voltage and ground at fuel pump, pink wire is voltage black wire is ground. The initial prime is only for key on engine off, lasts a couple seconds. You use a testlite to check voltage and ground.
Check voltage and ground for fuel pump relay. Also, you have an inertia switch, you have to check that.

For testing, you can use jumper wire at load side of fuel pump relay, the load side is that line with the arrowhead. When relay is energized that line moves to the other terminal and sends voltage to fuel pump, just unplug the relay, use jumper between terminal 30 and 87, terminal 30 is hot all the time.
The voltage and ground for the control side of relay is controlled by computer I believe, If the control side is the problem, I'd have to check wiring circuit and computer.
With engine cranking, you have injector pulse, also?

MY 93 FORD RANGER WANT START REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND STILL WANT START UNLESS POURING GAS INTO INTAKE THEN IT SHUT OFF AFTER GAS RUN OUT THERE IS GAS IN THE GAS RAIL

Are the injectors working? Remove 1 injector harness and install a test light across the wiring harness terminals and crank the engine. If the light blinks on and off... the injectors will be working. If no flashing light, check for power on one of the terminals with the key on. If no power, check all fuses. The computer supplies the ground. If power ok, suspect no ground and computer problem

What can make a fuel pump not work attached to gas tank but work when conneted under the hood stight to the battery ?

Check the ground wire for the pump and see if it is grounded to the frame. Use the ohm setting on the voltmeter to do this. Or using the pigtail. Put the hot wire in the harness plug and ground the other to the frame, if it works, your ground is bad. You can trace it or just cut it and ground it close to the tank on the frame.

New fuel pump still no fuel

lets say you have power and fuel is pumping it goes from pump to fuel rails in one long line if fuel is at port on rail then ck injectors for hot and ground hot with key on ground with engine turning injectors get ground from ecm ,if no ground ck for bad ground wires then ck ecm ,. if no power to pump ck fuse and fuel pump relay and wire system. some times replacement parts are bad.
