The slave cylinder is part of the throw out bearing,the transmision must be removed in order to gain access to it.

I know the regular sized Ford pickups had the slave cylinder inside the bellhousing, requiring transmission removal for replacement (not very smart, Ford!) So I suppose your Ranger, too, if you don't see the cylinder on the outside.; Most people who go through this replace the whole clutch and the slave cylinder at the same time, to avoid having to do it over again.

the slave cylinder on the 90's models rangers is inside the transmission. you have to pull the transmission and its mounted around the output shaft highly recommended to replace the clutch since its out to save for troubles later

How do i bleed my slave cylinder in my 1993 ford ranger. cause it is hard to get in and out of gear, or do u think it may be something else.... thanks


you can not bleed it
replace it after this test
pump the clutch 25 times with the engine off
If you do get a pedal with the clutch to shift the slave cylinder is shot
have the slave clylinder full before doing this test

How to install a slave cylinder on a 95 ford ranger


The easiest way to deal with this problem is to order the complete preblead slave cylinder kit.
You can, just go with a new slave cylinder but because of the age of the other parts. You may run into other problems down the road. Why have to do it twice.
To replace the slave cylinder only:
Its easy, just carefully push/remove the small metal pin that hold the plastic line to the slave cylinder. then push-in and turn counterclockwise, to remove slave cylinder. Then install new slave cylinder and reverse the procedure. Now bleeding the system will take a while. But all you will do is just keep pumping the clutch pedal until the pedal returns.

2001 Ford ranger edge. The gears won't change.


The trans will need to come out. While your at it, just replace the clutch assembly, rear main oil seal, resurface the flywheel, and the clutch master cyl. Its not really a job you should do, find a repair shop to handle it.

In my experience, the main cause of a problem like this is either due to incorrect installation or not using an OEM slave cylinder! As far as the clutch wear, when replacing a clutch it is absolutely necessary to have the flywheel machined at a machine shop!

I would first check for leaks, and if no leaks i would check your master and slave cylinders if they are working properly

no it doesn't come filled basically you bleed it like a brake system. Fill the master cylinder and pump the clutch, there is a bleeder on the slave cylinder

have you check the slave cylinder to see if its moving when someone puts there foot on the clutch.
And check the adjustment on the master cylinder.
