Just the reply I was hoping for! Yes, it would be a good idea to r/r the used 3.5 engine with a new timing belt and water pump too, would it not? for these seem prone to failure on the 3.5

so if I buy a used 3.5 I need to make sure I get the engine wiring harness and ecm with it? What is the oldest 3.5 that will work in my '99 intripid?

one more question, is it true there is a 2.7 w/out a pcv valve system? my 2.7 still drives, just a lot of blow by, need to nurse it until I can purchase 3.5 replacement motor. what brand product would u consider the best to flush out accumulated sludge in my current 2.7? Like I said, just need to nurse it for a little longer to save cash for the replacement motor...:) thanks!

The 3.5 will bolt right in, it is the beat choice by far, the 2.7 is junk. u will need to swap over the wiring harnesses and the ECM, the transmission will work and the motor mounts are the same, of course u will need to replace the belts and hoses and it would be a good idea to replace the water pump and timing belt on the used 3.5 liter.

all the 3.5 engine will work, but get the newest engine you can money permitting, and yes u must use the wiring and electronics from the used engine, so buy it all. I have a 3.5 in my Dodge and the engine runs like a small V8, 250 HP very good acceleration and never had a problem with it.

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango and we got a transmission from Ebay and we got the old one out and new one in and the torch convert bolts won't line up...any suggestions?

Its the wrong transmission. You can't swap transmissions with different engine sizes. You also can't swap converters with different transmissions. Just won't work. Sorry. Pull it and send it back.

Can you replace 2002 Dodge intrepid engine with 2005 Dodge Intrepid engine

Actually the intrepid was discontinued on 2005 in favor of the magnum. If you are referring to the last year of the Intrepid. All engines should fit but for minimal changes swap the engine with the same displacement (2.7L, 3.3L & 3.5L).

Wanting to swap out 2.7 engine in a dodge intrepid for different size more reliable motor. what engines will work? 3.5 3.2 3.3? which is easiest to change over and what is required in the way of new...

I would not recommend such an engine swap especially with OBD-II controlled vehicles.

Any engine that you do fit into that Intrepid other than the same 2.7 liter engine, will also require you to have the computer for that engine installed into your intrepid in order to run that engine, and if the sensor connectors are different then you will also have to change the wiring harness as well, and the cost of all of that will not justify the end result.

Even if you did manage to change everything out successfully, you would still have to contend with an emission test at some point, even if it was just to sell the vehicle, and if you live in California you can forget about ever passing an emission test with that converted vehicle, unless you are able to get the CARB (California Air Resource Board) to issue you a certification number for your modified Intrepid, and do not hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

Look for a 2005 or later 2.7 liter engine for your intrepid, they had all of the the design flaws worked out of those engines by that time.

I hope that this information will help you and save you some trouble and a lot of spent money.

I want to change the 2.7 liter engine in my 1999 dodge intrepid but i'm being told it will most likely have transmission problems after it worth investing the money or just a waste of time? All...

if you are changing the engine i cant see why you would have transmission issues as long as there were no concerns with the trans before the engine swap should be fine i just did a 300m with a 3.5 same basic setup probably the same exact trans it runs fine remove the crank sensor before removing and installing engine to prevent damage to this if you remove the radiator an upper support the motor can be seperated from the engine while trans stays in the car it took all day with hand tools but it was rather simple

We put a motor in a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and can't get it to run. All the wires are right and everything checks out.

You need the ecm that went to the repacement engine.Even if replacement engine is of same year and model of old engine.Chrysler used numerous different programs in these cars

2000 dodge intrepid 2.7..Queston is will a 3.2

not really a complete wiring change and some sensors it is a head ache unless you have the money and a professional please be careful if you are to try this yourself. We all know the 2.7l has lots of problems. The engine was made for synthetic oil and the dip stick is not accurate. I own four of them. nice cars and the Canadian Built engines as any other engine have bugs that need to be worked out. thank you for your time, Lee Davidian

They are pretty reliable. Transmissions sometimes have problems and battery changing, etc isnt easy. I have had 2 concordes and 2 intrepids, as well as a van from chrysler and for the most part they are fine except the transmissions. have had to change the transmission in 2 of the cars and the van (which takes a different one). Engines are good if taken care of. Rick

It is located on the left side of the engine down where the lower rad hose meets the engine block. It is fairly difficult to change.
