Question about Chevrolet 1500

I have a 99 chevy that is stuck in the off position and i cant get it out so i was wondering how i would get the ignition lock cylinder out

If you can turn the switch to on, then it's easy. If so, just look for a little hole in the column around the switch. With the key in the on position, stick a paper clip or small nail in the hole, pushing on the lock release. While pushing in, pull straight out on the lock. If you can't turn the key, you hace to drill the release button out of the hole on the column. Hope this helps...

Have to pull the steering wheel and go in thru the column to get at the switch. Here we go, 1 Unhook negative battery cable, this will keep air bag from firing accidently 2 remove air bag/horn 3 remove steering wheel retaining nut 4 using a puller remove the steering wheel, make sure the wheels are pointing straight before you turn the engine off, this will make it easier to get wheel back on centered. 5 use a lock plate depressor to depress the lockplate and remove the retaining ring. 6 remove the turn signal switch, there is usually enough slack in the wires to allow the switch to be moved out of the way 7 remove the lock cylinder retaining bolt, and the cylinder, it should pull straight out. 8 reassemble in reverse order, make sure you have the airbag plugged in and bolted down before you reconnect the battery.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. GM has had some problems with this , If you have the console shifter there is a micro switch that when put into park a linkage pushes on this micro switch closing the circuit to ignition lock cylinder control actuator allowing you to remove your key ! These linkages fall out causing this problem ,an have electrical wiring problems as well ! I fixed a 2006 Chevy cobalt that had this same problem by getting a used shifter assembly at the auto salvage year ! cost $20.00 . There mite be a access hole under the bottom of the steering column with a release button up inside !

How do I get a stuck key out of an ignition lock cylinder on a 2006 chevy impala 3.9 motor


Does it go into the lock position ? Will the shifter go into the park position ? Is it a automatic transmission ?
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
There should be a hole in the bottom of plastic steering cover or a rubber cover that comes out . you can stick your finger up there an there is a button you push that will allow you to take out the key !

I have a 2003 Chevy blazer xtreme 4.3 v6 automatic transmission and its giving me some issues with the console shifter and ignition system! Every other time I put the blazer in park and try to take the key...

2002 chevy ,monte carlo , how do i remove a locked key lock cylinder if i cant turn to the on position


The ignition needs to be in the ON position to be removed, if you can not turn it at all you will need to drill it out in order to remove it. The best place to start drilling is the retaining pin that holds the cylinder in place.

Hi Willy, It may be a problem of a worn key, but on that age of vehicle it's more likely to be a worn ignition barrel. Try and have the key replaced first and it that fails, be ready to replace the barrel and key. Happy new year and Regards John

2009 HHR Standard (not automatic) Key Stuck in Ignition


FYI this is now a free dealer fix--Service Bulletin--not a recall. chevy sent letters reregarding issue. Mine was the lock cylinder housing was faulty, the piece that holds the springs to the pieces in for the key shape poped out. temp fix is you can unplug wiring harness under steer wheel to disable the car and remote will still lock door and alarm still works. Of course mine went out on a saturday afternoon. you can remove the lock cylinder yourself and take to locksmith, they can fix the cylinder probably for under 10 bucks. i luv it a 16000 car stuck because 1/8" by 1/2" piece of metal comes loose.

I have a 2008 chevy cobalt the key is stuck in the start and I cant turn it back in the off position


You need a new ignition switch lock cylinder. GM is extremely bad for these things going bad. There not all that expensive to replace.

2005 Chevy Impala ignition switch stuck in off position


Someone may have tried to steal the car and damaged the lock's internal pins. Replace the entire lock with new.

Car was stolen broke the ignition


REMOVAL

  1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
  2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
  3. Remove ignition switch as described under STARTING AND CHARGING SYSTEMS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/IGNITION SWITCH.
  4. Remove key light case from lock body, if equipped.
  5. On 1989 Accord models, place ignition lock cylinder in the ACC position.
  6. On except 1989 Accord, place ignition lock in the I position.
  7. On all models, position suitable punch into hole on lock cylinder housing and depress pin, then remove lock cylinder from housing.
INSTALLATION

  1. On 1989 Accord models, install ignition lock cylinder as follows:
    1. Place ignition lock cylinder in the LOCK position.
    2. Rotate key until it is almost at the ACC position, then insert lock cylinder until pin contacts housing.
    3. Rotate key to ACC position, then push pin in and insert lock cylinder into housing until pin clicks into place.
  1. On except 1989 Accord, install ignition lock cylinder as follows:
    1. Place ignition lock cylinder in the O position.
    2. Rotate key until it is almost at the I position, then insert lock cylinder until pin contacts housing.
    3. Rotate key to I position, then push pin in and insert lock cylinder into housing until pin clicks into place.
  1. Install ignition switch and connect battery ground cable.
SRS wire harness is routed near the ignition switch.

CAUTION:
  • All SRS electrical wiring harnesses are covered with yellow outer insulation.
  • Before disconnecting the SRS wire harness, install the short connector on the airbag.
  • Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if it has an open circuit or damaged wiring.
IGNITION SWITCH
  1. Remove the steering wheel, then remove the steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect the 7-P connector from the under-dash fuse box.
  3. Insert the key and turn it to "0."
  4. Remove the 2 screws and replace the base of the switch.
