Sorry to hear that-well the block is not going to be rebuildable if a rod got loose. The crank shaft will be damaged and probably the cylinder wall of that piston and since things were all out of sync there is a chance the valves for that cylinder got damaged. It is tricky but possible to find the same engine from a salvage yard. They usually want to sell the whole motor not just the block. I wish I could be of more help. Good Luck

Why does it feel as though I'm riding the brake?

Sounds like transmission prob. Loud sound cause its downshiftd makn motor rev. Some components getn hot in the electrics then cooling down. A scan wil show the worn part. Try not to driveit. And dont go to a dealer

Engine knocking

Well a low tone knocking noise at startup is usually a worn engine bearing.
You should be able to have someone listen to the engine to tell if it is coming from the top or bottom.

Caravan does't reach operating temperature

No one ever said new means good. Try another thermostat. Make sure it is the recommended temp for the vehicle. I would spend the extra money to buy a dealer thermostat. What controls temp is restriction of flow thru the system until a set temperature is reached and the thermostat opens. Has to be a thermostat.

Check the timing belt. If it is old it may have enough slack in it to momentarily retard the timing when you hit the loud pedal or when you let off.

Kia optima engine ticking

sounds like lower end bearing damage (connecting rod) when oil level drops at interstate speed a connecting rod bearing will seize very quickly thus causing the bearing to spin in the rod and enlarge clearance . that is the knocking sound you here .
