How to read transmission dipstick?

I have a 1992 Isuzu Trooper S, AT, little over 200,000 miles. Check Trans light came on yesterday. I need to check fluid level but don't know how to read dipstick. It has small holes; which ones should I go by?

It should be at the top hole when hot, check with engine running and gear shifter in the P position

Congrats on owning a great vehicle. With that many miles - please drop by the dealer - and -- the REAL reason to take it is to have them look for RECALLS on your VIN # but you can also pick their brain on any other questions you might have.
AS for the dip stick reading see here: INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO

Another question on a 2000 Isuzu Trooper-re/ transmission fluid. To either add or change the fluid, Is this something I HAVE to take to an Isuzu dealer to do??

Adding fluid is easy, you only need a long, clean funnel to insert into the dipstick tube. You check it when the engine has been warmed up and the car has been driven a few miles, check it on a level surface, engine running. Changing is a little more involved, and can be messy-you remove the pan, bolt by bolt, working around the bottom until it starts to drip, then pour fron the trans. It is a lot of fluid (about 6 quarts) so you need a large and wide drain pan to catch the trans fluid and rags to mop up what misses the pan. Remove the pan, and pull down the filter, it is just press fitted into the valve body. Use a lintless rag to clean up the bottom of the valve body, then install a new filter. You normally do not have to install a new pan gasket, but the kit you get with the filter will include one-if your gasket looks at all like it is compromised, replace it. After it is all buttoned up, you fill it with fluid through the dipstick, and if I removed 6 quarts, I add 4, start it up, then add in increments of 1/2 quart until it is within the hatch marks on the dipstick. It is not a difficult job, but it is messy and time consuming.

Wheres the transmission dipstick located

the trooper has no dipstick for trans its a sealed system on the trans pan you will find a fill plug and a drain plug the one on top inrecess is the one your looking for with the truck in park running remove fill plug fluid level should be just below that hole you can use ur finger to tell

Hope this helps

I have a 1997 Isuzu trooper-limited. Where is the transmission dipstick

There isn't one. You need to climb under it and remove side filler plug on trans (with vehicle warmed up and on level ground) Correct level = dribble of trans fluid from fill hole.

I need to fill the transmission fluid on my 94 trooper but cannot find the filler cap

Remove the transmission dipstick, get a funnel and pour it down the dipstick housing. Replace dipstick and check frequently until full. Hope this helps!

Ya sounds like the electric shift solenoid. Problem with electrical. Will not give you a warning. Will go bad in a heartbeat. You can try unhooking plug that gos into the trans and spray electrical cleaner on it. plug back in. Wiggle some wires and maybe find one loose or broken wire or connection and hope for the best. But its probably the tranny with that many miles. Go to Advance Auto Parts they usually scan your car for free for codes. Good luck

Check trans light on

there are 2 possible problem and solution. 1st check your RPM sensor located in the transmission.(less expensive part). if this does not work. got to option 2 which is the computer box, try to consult an expert computer box technician to repair it or buy a new comp box. but before buying... be sure all electrical connections are good and no additional accessory are connected to the wirings.bad connections and circuits may lead to damage comp box.
