I,m assuming you have a 7.3L diesel if so you have one or more bad glow plugs or a bad glow plug module causing the start issue as for the hard to shift issue is it straight gear , automatic or what without more info that is a loaded question back to the start issue your glow plugs have a harness that is actually part of the valve cover gasket about middle of top of valve cover you will see a connector unhook this connector and inspect both sides they like to burn and melt due to poor connections and will also cause this problem

05 f-350 6.0 hard to start when cold. holds back first 5 miles or so from cold start

could be a number of things from low oil to low batteries. fuel injector control modual or bad injectors are really common on the 6.0l try giving the batteries a slow charge out of the vehicle. could also be a glow plug concern. try plugging the block heater in and see if it has the same effect. most likely fuel injectors or the ficm tho. fuel injectors run about $100 a peice and 3 or so hrs to install and the ficm is around $800 and about 2 hrs to install and needs to be programed by a ford authorized scan tool upon installation

98 dodge ram 5.2l 4x4. Trans/Idle problems.

It won't shift 1-2 or 2-3 or both unless you let off? If it is just 1-2 it might be a band adjustment, but I'll bet you have a plugged governor solenoid screen also.

I just bought a ford f250 and its geting cold where do i find the plug to keep the glow plugs warm and how cold does it need to b before i plug it in

if it has a block heater the plug should be on passenger side under bumper tucked up buy radiator not all come with block heater

Hard Starting in morning

Do mean you have hard time communicating with a scanner at the OBDII connector, if so make sure you power at pin16 at diagnostic connector, also we have seen issue with glowplugs not working properly causing hard start when cold and starts fine after warm-up
You can check for glowplugs operation at initial key-of before cranking by checking for voltage at each glowplug connector with a multimeter.

It is possible that some of the glow plugs might not be working. This will cause a hard start and smoking condition especially in cold weather.

1999 F250 SD 7.3L cold starting problem

Yes, my 2003 did the same with about 75k miles on it, stranded me on days it stayed under 40F unless I plugged in the block heater the night before, then it started like a champ. Dealer replaced the relay and a control unit under ESP warranty. There's no way to fix this one without throwing parts at it.
